Rohit Sharma led team India to their first trophy since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. India finished off the tournament unbeaten to become the first-ever team to do so.
Rohit became the top scorer of the team as well as the second-best run-getter as a whole in the tournament. The Hitman’s bat produced 257 runs with an average of 36.71 from 8 innings.
Irfan Pathan Lauds Rohit Sharma
Speaking on Star Sports, former India pace sensation Irfan Pathan heaped some praise on the India captain. Pathan believes Rohit ‘has changed Indian cricket in many ways’
“If you ask Rohit Sharma after winning the World Cup trophy whether he can fly, he will say he can fly and jump from anywhere because he has changed Indian cricket in many ways. You have the great Kapil Dev as a fantastic leader who actually made us believe that we can win the World Cup. We had Sourav Ganguly, who made an impact on Indian cricket in a big way.”

Rohit’s captaincy has been full of heartbreaks since winning the T20 World Cup. Under him, India reached two finals in 2023, in the WTC and ODI World Cup but lost both to Pat Cummins’ Australia. Had he won them both, he would have become the most successful Indian captain ever, according to Pathan.
“We had MS Dhoni, the most successful Indian captain ever, but whenever you will talk about Rohit Sharma, you will say he was one of the most successful Indian captains. Imagine, if he had won the WTC trophy, the 50-over World Cup trophy, and the T20 World Cup now, he would have been the most successful Indian captain ever.”

The India Zimbabwe T20 series is about to start on July 6 which includes 5 matches. The senior team who played the 2024 T20 World Cup are given rest as Shubman Gill will lead the side with Sanju Samson as the wicketkeeper batter
