Rohit Sharma led India to their second T20 World Cup trophy in the West Indies. The Blues had been unbeaten throughout the tournament to become the first team ever to do it.
In the final, they beat South Africa by 7 runs in a final-over thriller. Batting first, India had poised a 176-run target that Proteas nearly caught up to, but the bowing brilliance from Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma sealed the deal for the Blues.
Virat Kohli, who was not in form throughout the tournament, rose in the final to score 72 runs, which turned into the backbone of India’s innings. Rohit Sharma, with his firing up in later games, became the second on the list of run-getters.
It was India’s first international trophy after the 2013 Champions Trophy and the first one for Rohit as a captain.
