With the 2024 T20 World Cup coming to a close we can now look back at all the matches and see who were the best performers in the tournament.
For a major part of this competition, the bowlers dominated the batters, Pitches like those in the Nassau Caunty Cricket Stadium in New York saw teams struggling to score even at a run a ball. The dominance of bowlers can be known by the fact that Indian pace maestro Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the Tournament.
Despite that, this World Cup was good for a lot of batters. While some played one brilliant inning, like Virat Kohli’s Player of the Match performance in the final against South Africa, others were consistent throughout, notching up a lot of runs throughout the competition.
Today, we will look at three of such players, those who scored in several games and ended up becoming the highest run scorers in the tournament. These are the top three run scorers in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Top 3 Highest Run Scorers of T20 World Cup 2024
3) Travis Head
Despite not playing in Australia’s first two games of this World Cup, Travis Head not only became his nation’s highest run-scorer in the competition. After a weak 12-run inning against Oman and a couple of 34 runs each against England and Namibia, Head scored his first half-century when he notched 68-off-49 against Scotland.
He helped give Australia a quick start against Bangladesh in the Super 8 by scoring 31 in 21. But in a crucial game against Afghanistan, the explosive opener was dismissed for a duck.
And even though he played a fine inning of 76-off-43 while chasing against India in their last Super 8 game, it was not enough as Australia lost and was eliminated from the competition. Travis Head scored 255 runs in seven innings with an average of 42.50 and a strike rate of 158.38

2) Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma became only the third Indian captain to win a World Cup. Not only did the 37-year-old have an awesome tournament as a captain, but he also led his team from the front with the bat.
Rohit had a fine start to the tournament, scoring an unbeaten 52 against Ireland, followed by getting out on 12 against arch-rivals Pakistan. His slump in form continued as he was dismissed for three against the United States and then was dismissed for eight in the first Super 8 game against Afghanistan.
From this point, however, the skipper picked up his form. After scoring 23 against Bangladesh, he played arguably the best inning of the tournament, a 92-off-41 against Australia. Then, against England in the semi-finals, he again scored a 50.
While Rohit Sharma might have gotten out on nine against South Africa in the final, his team picked up their first World Cup in 13 years. He was also his team’s highest run-scorer in the World Cup with 257 runs in eight games with an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.7
1) Rahmahullah Gurbaz
Afghanistan wicket-keeper/opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz had a tournament to remember in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Despite playing most of his games on challenging pitches, Gurbaz became the highest run scorer of the competition.
The 22-year-old had a brilliant start to the competition. After scoring 76 against Uganda in the opening game, which was more runs than the whole Uganda lineup, he scored 80 in the famous win against New Zealand, which was more than what the whole New Zealand team scored in that match.
Then came a slump in his form, from 11 against Papua New Guinea, to a duck against the West Indies, to another 11 in the first Super 8 game against India.
Gurbaz picked up his form again, scoring 60 in a crucial and famous win over Australia, followed by 43 on a tricky track against Bangladesh. His dismissal for a duck against South Africa in the semi-final was a big reason behind Afghanistan’s batting collapse in that game.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 281 runs in eight games in this World Cup with an average of 35.12 and a strike of 124.33.
