We will have to wait a bit more to see Gautam Gambhir as the new India men’s cricket coach. According to the reports, the former cricketer will only join the Blues after India’s Zimbabwe tour.
VVS Laxman to Coach India in Zimbabwe
A BCCI source has told PTI that VVS Laxman will step in as a temporary coach to fill the void as Rahul Dravid’s stint as a coach will end after the T20 World Cup. Laxman has done this multiple times, and Dravid and his staff were on a break.
“Laxman and a few NCA coaches might travel with the fresh and young Indian squad to Zimbabwe. Whenever Rahul Dravid and the senior team’s coaching staff have taken breaks, Laxman and the NCA team have stepped in to fill the void.”
Gautam Gambhir served as a mentor for the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders and played a huge part in their crowning in the 2024 edition of the tournament.
India will probably send a young side to Zimbabwe, as the senior players will be given some rest after the World Cup. Suryakumar Yadav or Hardik Pandya will likely lead the team, and Sanju Samson is expected to return as the wicketkeeper-batter.
The 5-match T20I series will commence on July 5 at the Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe.
