After 40 games played across the West Indies and the USA, the group stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has concluded. On June 19, the Super 8 round will kick off. The remainder of the tournament will be played only in the West Indies.
The group stage of the ongoing tournament was heavily tilted toward the bowlers: the pitches in the USA favored the pacers significantly, while those in the West Indies were spin-friendly. Thus, the tournament so far has been the lowest-scoring T20 World Cup ever, with a run rate of 6.71. The bowling average of 17.8 is the lowest in any T20 World Cup. Lockie Ferguson even bowled all four of his overs maidens against PNG.
Therefore, batters, especially those who batted in the USA leg, didn’t get to score many runs.
