And that seemed like the correct option, as all-rounder Sompal Kami dismissed opener Tanzid Hasan on the first ball of the match. This was the first in a string of constant wickets for Nepal, the next being captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was bowled by Dipendra Singh Airee.
Before the end of the powerplay, Bangladesh lost two more wickets as Liton Das and Towzid Hridot were sent back to the pavilion. From here, however, the team’s experienced names tried stabilising the proceedings as Mahmadullah and Shakib al-Hasan took strike.

But both of them couldn’t score a lot, as both of them departed soon after the team scored 50. They went from 52/5 to 69.7 and 75/8. The lower order mustered up some vital runs before Bangladesh was all out in the last over for 106 runs. Nepal’s previous game on this pitch showed that this total might not be enough for the Bangla Tigers.
Nepal’s inning got off to a similarly poor start. They lost two wickets in the third over and lost four before the powerplay ended. When they lost their entire top order in the seventh over, as the score was 26/5, it seemed like it was all over for Nepal.
At this point, Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee had built the longest and most valuable partnership in this game. Batting for almost 10 overs together, the two took the score from 26/5 to 78 runs before Malla lost his wicket in the 17th over.
However, there was another twist in the tale as Nepal collapsed from this point with victory in sight. Having lost six wickets, Nepal reached the score of 85 before losing four wickets without scoring even a single run in one of the most aggressive collapses in the World Cup.
Being all out for 85, Nepal lost the game to Bangladesh by 21 runs and will end their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with zero points but a lot of good experience.
As for Bangladesh, this win ensured that they would finish second in Group D behind South Africa, making them the second and final team from this group to make it to the Super 8.
