Fights in Pakistan cricket team: The Pakistan cricket team has been left in disarray as a report has come of groupings in the squad members following their disastrous exit in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
A strong favorite to advance to the Super 8 stage along with India in Group B, Pakistan have been left shell-shocked as they lost to the USA, who are playing their first ever T20 World Cup, in the Super Over and then failed to chase 120 against India despite being in a strong position at one point of needing 48 runs in 48 balls with 8 wickets in hand.
Their win over Canada didn’t mean much as the USA earned their qualification point after their match against Ireland was washed out.
Pakistan will play a dead rubber against Ireland on Sunday, and that could be the last game of the Men In Green under Babar Azam’s captaincy in T20Is, although with Pakistan cricket, you never know when they will reinstate him later when the new skipper fails.

This is what happened with Shaheen Afridi, who was appointed the T20I skipper after Pakistan’s failuire to reach the semi-final in the World Cup 2023 (a completely different format). But Shaheen was sacked after a series loss in New Zealand. Shaheen is reportedly still upset over it.
Mohammad Rizwan, who is a senior player and who might have expected the captaincy to fall to him having led Multan Sultans brilliantly in the PSL, is also reportedly unhappy with not getting the T20I captaincy.
All the emotions of these three high-profile players apparently burst open in the dressing room recently. The recall of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim from retirement has not helped PCB’s case in pacifying the situation.
A source has told PTI,
“There are three groups in the team, one led by Babar Azam, the second one by Shaheen Shaheen Afridi and the third one by Muhammad Rizwan. Add to this mix the return of seniors like Muhammad Aamir and Imad Wasim and the recipe was ready for a World Cup disaster.
“The return of Imad and Amir added to the confusion as it was difficult for Babar to get any worthwhile performances from both of them as they had not played top level domestic or international cricket for a long while now except in franchise based leagues.
“There were even instances where some players were not talking to each other and a few of them even tried to appease all the group leaders in the team.”
