PAK vs CAN Match Highlights And Report-T20 WC: Pakistan kept themselves alive in the race to the Super 8 round by winning against Canada in their third Group A match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, after losing to the USA and India.
At the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, where Pakistan fell six runs short of India’s total of 119, Canada set Pakistan a target of 107, which the Asian side gunned down in 17.3 overs and with 7 wickets in hand.
This time, in the chase, there were no hiccups for the Men In Green as it happened against India. Of course, the Canadian bowlers are nowhere near the Indian bowlers in terms of caliber and experience.
Mohammad Amir, who returned with figures of 2/13, bagged the Man of the Match award. Mohammad Rizwan scored 53* runs in 53 balls to steer the chase, although he continued to get criticism over his strike rate and intent: Rizwan hit only two fours and a six in his 53-ball knock.

Babar won the toss and elected to bowl first. The match was pretty straightforward from thereon, as expected. After a few boundaries early on for Aaron Johnson, the Pakistani pacers were all over the Canada batters.
While Johnson held his end for 13.3 overs, he lost batting partners regularly, starting with opening partner Navneet Dhaliwal, who was bowled by Amir. Then, Shaheen Afridi got the outside edge of Pargat Singh. Nicholas Kirton got run out, while Shreyas Movva and Ravinderpal Singh became victims of Haris Rauf’s pace. All five batters were dismissed for single-digit scores.
The Canada skipper Saad Bin Zafar was then bounced out by Amir, while Johnson was bowled by Naseem Shah. Johnson top-scored for Canada with 52 (44). No other batter managed a strike rate of more than 100. Canada finished with 106/7.

Pakistan’s chase suffered only one scare when Saim Ayub, who opened instead of Babar Azam, got out in the fifth over with only 20 runs on the board. However, from thereon, the Pakistani batters attacked and went for boundaries, proving that they had learned from their conservative and timid approach against India that proved fatal for them.
Although Pakistan ended the powerplay with only 28 runs, Rizwan and Babar collected some boundaries after that, despite the field restrictions being lifted. The duo eased into the chase but Babar got out for a run-a-ball 33. Rizwan notched up a half-century and saw off the chase in the 18th over, although Pakistan would have liked to get to the target quicker.
Score summary: Canada 106/7 in 20 overs (Aaron Johnson 52, Mohammad Amir 2/13); Pakistan 107/3 in 17.3 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 53, Dillon Heyliger 2/18). Pakistan defeated Canada by 7 wickets.
