Expected Netherlands XI for EURO 2024: As a shocker to the Netherlands dressing room, their star midfielder Frankie de Jong is ruled out of the UEFA Euro 2024 due to an ankle injury. The Barcelona man will be a huge miss for the Orenje in the tournament.

De Jong took to the Gram to make the announcement. The 27-year-old noted his disappointment in not being able to wear the national jersey. But he also didn’t forget to encourage his ‘boys’.

“I’m sad and disappointed that I won’t make it to the European Championship. We’ve been doing a lot of it the past few weeks, but my ankle needs more time unfortunately. It’s a dream and greatest honour to represent our country in a final tournament. Wearing the orange shirt, singing the Wilhelmus, and feeling the support of the entire country. But now I will, like the entire orange legion, cheer for our team from the sidelines. Let’s go, boys.”

Goalkeepers

Justin Bijlow, Mark Flekken, and Bart Verbruggen

Bart Verbruggen, who is currently keeping the nets of Brighton, would most probably be the number-one choice for Koeman’s Netherlands. But Mark Flekken brings strong competition for the position as well.

Defenders

Nathan Ake, Daley Blind, Matthijs de Ligt, Stefan de Vrij, Denzel Dumfries, Jeremie Frimpong, Lutsharel Geertruida, Ian Maatsen, Micky van de Ven, Virgil van Dijk,

Star defender Virgil van Dijk will lead their backline. Nathan Ake will be another talent who will add to Oranje’s strengths at the backline after a terrific season with Manchester City. Denzel Dumfries and Daley Blind are the other names that will most probably be seen in front of their goalkeeper.

Midfielders

Ryan Gravenberch, Teun Koopmeiners, Tijjani Reijnders, Jerdy Schouten, and Georginio Wijnaldum

They won’t be getting the support of the mastery of Frankie de Jong. Then who will step into his shoes? It will be most likely PSV midfielder Jerdy Schouten who played a major role in the club’s Eredivisie trophy and UCL knockout stages. Another option would be Atalanta player Teun Koopmeiners. Former Liverpool player Georginio Wijnaldum, who is currently playing at Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, will also add flair and experience to the Oranje midfield.

Forwards

Hoffenheim striker Wout Weghorst will most probably be their front-man, along with Liverpool’s Cody Gapko and Xavi Simons from the sides. Athletico Madrid forward Memphis Depay is also a viable option considering his experience.
