Cricket Legends Wants Sanju in India XI: Sanju Samson, after a terrific IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals, got his tickets to the USA and West Indies to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup for India. But the skilled wicketkeeper batter, as usual, was not picked in the playing XI when India met Ireland in their inaugural match in the tournament.
During a discussion session on ESPNcricinfo, former player and commentator Sanjay Manjerekar and Zimbabwean legend Andy Flower agreed on the fact that Samson should be in India’s playing XI as the 29-year-old is a better batter than Shivam Dube. They were answering a fan in the discussion.

According to Manjerekar, if Shivam Dube doesn’t ball, Samson should replace him, as the Keralite is a much more skilled batter.
“Absolutely right (Sanju should play as the better batter if Dube isn’t going to bowl). I believe Sanju Samson has finally matured, and this is the best Sanju Samson that India will get at the international level.”
Andy Flower thinks Sanju’s ‘beautiful timing’ and the ability to play pull shots will favour the Blues in the mega India vs Pakistan matchup.
“I don’t think India are going to use much of Dube’s bowling. So if it’s a straight shootout for batting class, you might want to judge what the matchups are against the opposition bowlers, could Dube’s ability to hit spin match up well against whatever opposition, or you need a greater skillset like Sanju has got? He plays the ball late, got beautiful timing, and can play the pull shot, that could be deemed a better technique to use against Pakistan.”
What’s Next for India?
India will play against Pakistan on June 9 in New York. Currently, by winning the first game against Ireland by 8 wickets, India sits at the top with a massive net run rate of 3.065.
