The former New Zealand player picked the player he coaches at CSK, Shivam Dube, to be the next Kapil Dev of India if the youngster bowls. Fleming also brought up the concern of talented all-rounders not getting the opportunity to bowl in the IPL due to the impact player rule.
“If he bowls the way he talks, he could be the next Kapil Dev. He has been training diligently and put in a lot of hard work during the IPL. While the team had several versatile all-rounders, the new impact player rule unfortunately diminishes the value of such well-rounded cricketers, which is rather disappointing.”

Though Dube didn’t get opportunities to bowl for CSK during IPL 2024, the player has been working hard to enhance his bowling skills in the nets. His ability to vary the pace and use cutters could make him unpredictable for opponents, says the CSK coach.
“He has been bowling effectively, maintaining a strong pace and delivery. In the right conditions, which tend to be a bit slower, his ability to vary his pace and use cutters can make him a tricky opponent. Despite this, he has worked hard to develop his skills and can play an important role for the team.”
Dube had bowled 3 overs in India’s warm-up match against Bangladesh ahead of the T20 World Cup. If he bowls well, it will be a huge relief for the country, which doesn’t have that many all-rounders.
