Pat Cummins warns KKR: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins has given a resounding warning, though in his classy nature, to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the mega-clash between the two teams in the IPL 2024 final.
KKR and SRH, the two teams that finished as the top two in the league phase this season, will battle it out for the IPL trophy in the final on Sunday night at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
KKR defeated SRH in Qualifier 1, but Cummins’ side bounced back with a victory over Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 to enter the final. KKR had also beat SRH in their encounter in the league stage. But Cummins knows better than most how to bring his and his team’s best game to an occasion like a final.

The SRH batters have been in marauding form this season, having broken the record for the highest total in IPL history twice. Apart from their famed trio of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Klaasen, now Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Reddy have also been batting with ultra-aggressive intent.
Cummins says he knows it’s a boom or bust approach, as it was seen in Qualifier 1 when SRH were bowled out for 159 against KKR. But the SRH captain is backing his batters to play the “super-aggressive” way that they have done throughout the season and has instilled fear in the opposition.
On the eve of the final in Chennai, Pat Cummins said, “We were pretty strong with how we wanted to play – super-aggressive – and in a 14 game-season, you’re not going to win every single game, but we think if we play that way, you’re going to win most of them. That’s kind of how it played out – there are little bumps that come along the way but that’s okay, you try and make sure it stays on course.”
SRH had finished at the bottom of the points table last season under Aiden Markram, but now they are only one victory away from their second IPL trophy. In 2016, it was the Australian David Warner who marched them to the title. On Sunday, Cummins will look to emulate Warner’s achievement with SRH.
