New Zealand’s announced squad includes 15 players and a travelling reserve. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) took to social media to release a video announcing their squad. Have a look:
Long-time captain and legendary batter Kane Williamson will lead the team into the tournament. Despite not getting too many games in the IPL currently for the Gujarat Titans, he is a crucial piece of the New Zealand squad across all formats.
Devon Conway, expected to return from injury during the IPL playoffs in the second half of May, will be the team’s #1 wicketkeeper, with Finn Allen being the backup. But Allen will likely be in the playing XI, seeing he is the only New Zealand batter in the top 10 in the ICC rankings for T20 batters.

Kane Williamson to Captain New Zealand In T20 WC
The only true batsman on the side is Kane Williamson, as every other batter can roll over their arms on occasion. So, the batting all-rounders on this team are as follows:
Rachin Ravindra had a breakout 2024 ODI World Cup and will be looking to make a similar impact in the T20 format. While Glenn Phillips is one of the best batters in T20 cricket, he is not getting many chances at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Daryl Mitchell too had a fantastic ODI World Cup last year, even scoring a massive ton in the semi-final against India.
The two names on this team that can come close to being described as full-time batters are Michael Bracewell and Mark Chapman. Bracewell captained New Zealand for months in 2023 when Kane Williamson was injured. While Mark Chapman is an impressive young batter who has scored big runs for the national side in recent times.
The two true all-rounders on this team have been doing it for the national team for over a decade. Mitchell Santner and Jimmy Neesham have been an integral part of the squad for a long time and are two of the most senior players in the squad.
The pace quartet of Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Matt Henry, and Lockie Ferguson is one of the best in the world. However, Lockie has not been in the best form for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. On the other hand, Boult is a crucial piece in the puzzle for league leaders the Rajasthan Royals.
