Jamie Carragher On Darwin Nunez Place In Team: Former Champions League winner with Liverpool and current football pundit Jamie Carragher questioned Reds striker Darwin Nunez’s place in the side, and says the team has a decision to make regarding his future with the club.
The Uruguayan striker has developed a reputation for missing absolute sitters. While no one questions the physicality he brings to the table or his off-the-ball movement, it is the final part of the job where he often tends to fail.
Liverpool most recently lost the Merseyside Derby to relegation candidates Everton 2-0. Not only was it a disappointing loss for the side that has dominated this rivalry for decades, but it also put a damper on their Premier League aspiration.

The Reds are currently second in the PL table with 74 points in 34 matches. They are three points behind table-toppers Arsenal who are on 77 points in 34 matches. A win against Everton would’ve brought the two on par on points. The real threat is Manchester City, who is in third with 73 points in just 32 matches. If the Sky Blues win their next two matches, they will be one point ahead of Arsenal and four off from Liverpool in as many matches.
Darwin Nunez missed a couple of massive chances against Everton. While it was not a good day for the whole of Liverpool’s attacking line, Nunez’s miss right before halftime was arguably the worst one.

Following the match, Carragher appeared on Sky Sports to comment on the match. When the discussion came to Darwin, the Englishman had this to say –
“The chance that Nunez misses before half-time, that is unforgivable at this level. That is not acceptable at this level, certainly when Liverpool are going for the title.”
Jamie continued:
“But after two years when Liverpool this season are going to the title and those big games, you need your man to score away at Old Trafford, away at Goodison, in the European game at Atalanta. There is no time to waste, this is not October or November. This is the business end of the title.”
Jamie Carragher then went on to proclaim that Liverpool just might make a decision on whether Nunez should remain in the club following this season.
“You are looking at it now and after two years, I don’t think there is going to be a massive improvement in him. What we have seen in the last two years is what he is. He can cause trouble, he can be erratic with his finishing. I don’t think it is going to be enough to win you the biggest trophies so I think there is a big decision to be made on him in the summer,” he said.
Now that it seems Liverpool has fallen off in the Premier League title race, coupled with their exit from the FA Cup and UEFA Europa League, manager Jurgen Klopp’s final season with the club might just end without him winning a trophy.
