Irfan Pathan Names His India Squad For T20 WC: Former Indian allrounder Irfan Pathan has named his India squad for the upcoming 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, starting on June 2 in the West Indies and the USA.
The squad for the upcoming World Cup has been a topic of much debate. Fans and experts alike have been discussing names that should be a part of the “plane” (plane to the US for WC).
There have been debates for almost every position in the squad – from the openers to the middle overs, to which allrounders should go, to which spinners should be included, to what should be the team pace attack, and which wicket-keepers should be on the plane. There are about 25-30 players who are vying for those 15 spots in the squad.
But the heaviest topic of debate has been the two wicketkeeper spots. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Dinesh Karthik, Jitesh Sharma, and Dhruv Jurel are in the race for the two WK spots.
Another point of contention has been the opening batter partnering with team captain Rohit Sharma, as names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and even Abhishek Sharma are vying for what at most will be two spots.
Then there are questions like which wrist spinners should be picked, who should partner with Jasprit Bumrah in the pace department and is Virat Kohli an integral part of the squad.

Irfan Pathan, who won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 with India and was the Player of the Match in the final against Pakistan, recently took to Twitter to share what team would he pick for the 2024 WC. He wrote –
As can be seen, Pathan has picked an in-form Shivam Dube in the side. He is also advocating for Rajasthan Royals standouts Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson along with the likes of Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav.
But the biggest takeaway from his list is the asterisk beside Hardik Pandya, that the Mumbai Indians captain should only be part of the squad if he bowls regularly. This is fair because Pandya is not in a good enough form to be picked only as a batter. His 3-4 overs will be crucial for India in most matches.
India will kick off its 2024 T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5. The team also has Pakistan, Canada, and the United States in their group.
