PL to Lose An Extra UCL Spot To Serie A: The English Premier League might be about to lose an extra spot in the EUFA Champions League to Serie A, which means that the Italian league will have five teams in the tournament next season.
The UCL is set to expand from 32 to 46 teams from next season and the competition will run on the ‘Swiss model’ in the group stages. As for the four extra spots, two will be provided to the top league in Europe whose teams will do the best in continental competitions.
The Premier League looked in prime position to have one of the spots and be able to send five teams into UCL next season.

But, as we know, Manchester City and Arsenal were kicked out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Other leagues did not go as well for English sides as Liverpool was eliminated in the Europa League quarter-finals at the hands of Atalanta. West Ham was also kicked out of UEL by Bayern Leverkusen.
The only English side to make it to the semi-finals of a continental competition this season is Aston Villa, who defeated Lille in the Conference League quarter-finals.

In comparison, Serie A will see Atalanta and Roma go into the Europa League semi-finals and Fiorentina make the semis in the Conference League.
The other team that is looking to finish top two in the ‘coefficient’ rating is Bundesliga, which will see Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund go into the Champions League semis, and Leverkusen make it to the Europa League semis. They are set to finish first in the rating. As a result, five German teams will play in the UCL next season.
If there are no further changes in the coefficient race, the fifth-placed Serie A side will make it to the Champions League Roma currently occupies the fifth spot while Atalanta is sixth in the league.
Surprisingly, if one of those teams, who are also in the Europa League semis, finishes fifth, while the other wins the trophy, up to six Serie A teams will play in the Champions League.
