Jos Buttler Took RR To Sixth Win In IPL 2024: Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Harbhajan Singh reckons that cricket experts are not giving Jos Buttler enough credit for his innings against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
KKR took on Rajasthan Royals in the Eden Gardens on April 16 in Match 31 of IPL 2024. While batting first, the home team put up a massive total of 223, helped by Sunil Narine’s first century in professional cricket. To win the match, RR had to tie their own record of the highest successful run chase in IPL history.
While the team maintained a solid run rate right from the start, regular wickets meant that RR was never ahead in the game despite keeping up with the required rate.

After Shimron Hetmayer was dismissed for a duck, the royals were 121/6 in the 13th over with 103 required in 46 balls. At this point, Buttler was at just 37 in 28 balls. But the gears started shifting from this point on.
Jos Buttler Took RR To Sixth Win In IPL 2024
Jos and Rovman Powell took on the solid KKR bowling, with Powell attacking the in-form Sunil Narine. Buttler himself showed crazy acceleration from here. So when Powell was dismissed for 26 off 13, the Englishman had the stage set for him to finish the job.
He manoeuvred with the tail-enders from this point and soaked in all the pressure. In the last over, with nine runs required, Buttler hit a six off the first ball to complete his century in 55 balls. He then played three dot balls so as to not bring Avesh Khan to strike. Then, he scored three runs in the last two deliveries of the match to bring the improbable win to the Royals.
It was a spectacular innings and a fantastic display of how to pace an innings. After the match, Harbhajan Singh claimed that this innings deserved all the laudits in the world, but Buttler will not be given credit like MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli for taking their side to victory.
“We will talk about MS Dhoni’s sixes and Virat Kohli’s hundred for months but doesn’t give credit to Jos Buttler. He is one of the legends of the name and deserves all the limelight. It was one the finest hundreds in the tournament,” Harbhajan Singh told Star Sports.
With this win, Rajasthan Royals now have six wins and 12 points in seven matches and is very close to playoff qualification. Their next match will be against Mumbai Indians on April 22 in Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
