Irfan Pathan Reckons This Season Is Over For RCB: Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Irfan Pathan reckons that this season is all but over for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
RCB is currently at the bottom of the IPL 2024 table with just one win in seven matches. With only two points and the worst net run in the competition, the Bengaluru-based franchise will have to win all of their matches from now on to confirm a berth in the playoffs.
In their most recent match, RCB conceded what was the highest score in the history of the IPL as SRH ended up scoring a whopping 287 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

A series of failures has led RCB to this position in the tournament. From names like Glenn Maxwell not firing in the middle order to some proper team management blunders from captain Faf du Plessis and the coaching staff. While Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 361 runs in seven matches, no other player has performed consistently in that blue and red jersey.
Irfan Pathan Reckons This Season Is Over For RCB
Irfan Pathan, who has been a regular in the commentary box during the IPL, recently discussed how RCB’s chances in this season are all but done and the reason behind their failures in a recent discussion on Star Sports.
“RCB’s season is almost over, and winning seven consecutive games is not possible for them. Even if they manage to do it, 16 points will not guarantee them a place in the playoffs as it is the minimum requirement but not the hundred percent confirmation. The way players have performed shows that the team didn’t compete as a unit and paid the price,” said Irfan.
The former all-rounder also blamed captain Faf du Plessis for not being able to build a proper team in three years. Bought in 2022 by RCB, du Plessis was named the team captain when Kohli stepped down from the position. In all this time, while he has shined with the bat for the most part (especially in the last two seasons), he along with the team management has not been able to build an all-rounded solid team. For this reason, RCB has not made even a single final in the last three seasons, despite being one of the most popular IPL franchises.
RCB will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match on April 21 in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
