IPL 2024 By the Numbers: The first two weeks of IPL 2024 are in the books as all 10 teams move to the middle stages of the tournament. Having played 3-4 matches each, all teams will now settle into their form this season. While some teams will soar to the top of the table, a few will falter towards the bottom, while all others will get ready for a battle for playoff spots.
With 18 out of 70 league-stage matches having been played, we feel it is time to look back at the initial stages of IPL 2024 and see how the numbers have stacked up so far.

6583 runs have been scored in 18 matches of IPL 2024. This breaks down to 182.8 runs per inning. This is more than 3 runs over the average runs in the 2023 season, which came out to 179. The year 2023 has the most average runs for an IPL season so far, and the 2024 season is currently higher than that. Such high average scores are helped by one particular inning, which is –
277 is the highest score in an innings in the history of the IPL. This was scored by Sunrisers Hyderabad against Mumbai Indians in Match 8 of IPL 2024. The previous record for the highest score in an IPL innings was 263 by Royal Challenger Bengaluru in 2011. That score was bested twice this season, as Kolkata Knight Riders also scored 272 against the Delhi Capitals in Match 16 of this season. 203 runs have been scored by Virat Kohli in IPL 2024 who is the current holder of the Orange Cap. In just four innings, Kohli has an average of 67.66 and a strike rate of over 140. Right on his heels is Riyan Parag, who has scored 181 runs in three matches with a strike rate of over 160. Kohli’s highest score this season was 83* against KKR in Match 10. Speaking of which –
89* is the highest score of IPL 2024, scored by Shubman Gill in Match 17 against the Punjab Kings. In that innings, he hit six 4s and four 6s. But when it comes to boundaries –
326 sixes have been scored in IPL 2024 so far, which averages 9 per inning and 18 per match. Out of these, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klassen has scored a whopping 17 of them in just four innings. 507 fours have also been scored this season, with Virat Kohli hitting 17 of those.

217 wickets have been taken in IPL 2024 so far. This amounts to about 6 wickets per inning and 12 wickets per match. Teams have been bowled out before the end of their 20-over quota on two occasions. The match with the most wickets so far was Match 16 between KKR and Delhi Capitals. While KKR lost 7 wickets in the first inning, DC were bowled out in the second.
7 is the highest number of wickets taken by an individual this season so far. This number has been reached by two bowlers, CSK’s Mstafizur Rahman and Gujarat Titans’ Mohit Sharma. Rahman also has the best figures in the tournament of 4/29 in Match 1 against RCB.
6.83 is the lowest average for a bowler who has taken four or more wickets this season so far, held by Lucknow Super Giants’ Mayank Yadav. Speaking of Mayank –
156.7 was the pace of a delivery bowled by Mayank Yadav in Match 15 against RCB. This is the fastest delivery in IPL 224 and the fourth fastest in IPL history. Having played only two matches, Mayank has already bowled the most balls over 155 kmph for any bowler in IPL history with three.
6 is the most points any team has in the IPL 2024 points table. KKR are on top of the table with six points in just three matches. RR are right behind with 6 points in 3 matches as well.
