Top 3 Impact Players In IPL 2024: Since being introduced in 2023 the Impact Player rule has transformed IPL into something we had never seen before. Breaking away from the traditional limitations of an XI player side, it has allowed teams to go into matches with team combinations never thought of before.
For those living under a rock, the Impact Player rule allowed teams to make a substitution during the match, bringing in an ‘Impact Player’ at point point of the match. The rule also allowed for announcing a team after winning or losing the toss, which means the teams can go in with different teams depending upon the toss.
Naturally, Impact players come in all shapes and sizes when it comes to their impact on the match. While sometimes they can be crucial to their team’s win, other times they can be a net neutral in the game.
Today, we will be looking at 3 of the best Impact substitutes in IPL 2024. All these three either helped their sides win the match or showed off how game-changing the rule itself could be –

3) Abhishek Porel – Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings (Match 2)
Straight off the bat, we are putting a name on this list that did not help their side win the match. In fact, Delhi Capitals lost this match to Punjab Kings by 4 wickets with 4 balls to spare. But this match came close in the first place because of Abhishek Porel’s exploits.
The keeper-batter was not part of the Playing XI when DC chose to bat first. He was not even planned to bring in as an Impact sub. But as DC’s batting collapsed to 128/6, Porel was brought in to attack in the death overs in place of Ricky Bhui. And Porel showed off his attacking ability, scoring 32-off10 and bringing his side to a respectable total of 174/9
While DC lost the matchy, in part because they did not have the services of the man originally planned as the Impact sub – Mukesh Kumar, this incident not only allowed a young Indian player to make his place in the side but also showed how versatile the uses of this rule can be.

2) Mahipal Lomror – Royal Challenger Bengaluru vs Punjab Kings (Match 6)
Yet another example of an Indian batter brought in in the death overs to knock around, but this time, his side won the match. While chasing a total of 177 against Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, RCB was 140/6 with 47 needed in 22 balls. With Dinesh Karthik on strike at 0, Impact player Lomror was brought in.
While it was Karthik who brought the onslaught on PBKS bowlers, Mahipal held his end of the bargain with 17 runs in 8 balls which led his side to a win.
While Mahipal Lomror had a better stint as the Impact player against Lucknow Super Giants in Match 15 where he scored 33-off-13, that innings did not lead his team to victory, but the one against PBKS did.

1) Ashutosh Sharma – Punjab Kings vs Gujarat Titans (Match 17)
The purest example of the positivity the Impact player rule brings to the game. Ashutosh Sharma made his debut for the Punjab Kings against the Gujarat Titans. When he came onto the pitch, his side was on 150/6 and needed 50 runs in 27 balls.
On the other hand, Shashank Singh had already announced himself to the world with a splendid half-century, but a lot of work still needed to be done. In came Ashutosh and started hammering the ball around the park. From the 50 runs needed, he scored the next 31 in just 17 balls.
While Sharma was dismissed before the innings ended, he quite nearly ensured a famous win for his team. While Shashank Singh might have been the hero of that victory, Ashutosh Sharma was a damn good sidekick.
