Aakash Chopra Raises Concerns on Ruturaj Batting: Senior commentator Aakash Chopra has raised eyebrows over the batting form of Ruturaj Gaikwad, highlighting that the CSK captain’s rut with the bat could also affect his captaincy in the coming games.
Leading CSK for the first time in his career and tasked with filling the big boots of MS Dhoni, Gaikwad led CSK to wins in their first two games, both at home, but then CSK lost their next two matches, both away. Their last two defeats were quite depressing—losing to the bottom-placed Delhi Capitals and surrendering timidly to SRH after putting only 165 runs on a good batting surface in Hyderabad.
The CSK captain’s own batting touch has been a concern so far.
Ruturaj Gaikwad runs in IPL 2024:
In four innings, Gaikwad has scored only 88 runs at a strike rate of 118, which is poor considering the matches CSK have played have been on good batting pitches. His last innings, against SRH, was a terrible, match-losing knock of 26 runs in 21 balls as CSK managed to post an under-par total.
Speaking in his YouTube video ahead of CSK’s match against KKR in Chennai on Monday, Aakash Chopra addressed the issue of Gaikwad’s lack of “good runs” so far in the tournament. Chopra reckons the CSK captain needs to contribute more with the bat to not let pressure build on hims

“What all will Chennai have to do to stop Kolkata’s juggernaut? Firstly, Ruturaj Gaikwad needs to score runs. He is my first player in focus. It’s been four matches, he has been seen batting well one or two times for sure but good runs haven’t been scored,” Chopra said.
“When you are at this stage of the season, where your team has won two and lost two, you suddenly start feeling that the captain has to contribute, otherwise there will be pressure on the captain, that you are batting badly because of captaincy. Secondly, your decisions start going weak as a captain,” he added.
There is a lingering feeling among a section of fans that if Gaikwad continues to underperform with the bat and if CSK also don’t get back to winning ways, then he could lose his captaincy and MS Dhoni could take it back, as it happened with Ravindra Jadeja in IPL 2022.
