RR vs LSG Match Highlights And Report-IPL: As he has been doing for the past many seasons, Sanju Samson started off the IPL 2024 with a blast, smashing 82* runs in 52 balls and once again forcing everyone to wonder why he still doesn’t have a fixed place in the Indian team.
Samson’s 82* and Riyan Parag’s 43 helped RR post 193 on the board, which proved to be 20 too much for LSG even as Nicholas Pooran stayed till the end with his 64* (41) after KL Rahul, the captain and opener, had played another frustrating T20 knock of 58 (44), in which he couldn’t bat for deep as he would have liked to after going at run-a-ball for more than half of his innings.

Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first on a surface that was described as dry by the commentators. RR lost Jos Buttler in the second over, outside edging Naveen-ul-Haq to wicketkeeper KL Rahul. Yashasvi Jaiswal, continuing his superb form of the past 12 months, cracked 3 fours and a six but was bounced out by Mohsin Khan.
Samson, at number 3, and Parag, promoted to number 4, then steadied the innings before the pair played shots with freedom, flexing their whippy bat-swing. The pair added 93 (59) for the third wicket, with both batters motoring around the strike rate of 150. Parag scored 43 (29) and Shimron Hetmyer was gone for 5, but Samson batted till the end to finish with 82* (52). Dhruv Jurel cracked a six and a four as RR posted 193.

In the defence of it, Trent Boult got RR to a dream start with the wickets of Quinton de Kock, caught at fine leg via a flick, and Devdutt Padikkal, who was castled for a duck on his LSG debut. Left-arm South African pacer Nandre Burger, on his IPL debut, dismissed Ayush Badoni. With Rahul batting slowly at one end, Deepak Hooda counter-attacked with 2 fours and 2 sixes but fell to Chahal, caught at deep mid-wicket, trying one boundary too many.
Rahul was 25 (25) at one point, and even though he would later on collect some boundaries, the pressure had been built a lot as the required run rate had shot north of 10 runs per over. Rahul got out at the start of the 17th over—off a smart plan from Sandeep Sharma, who bowled well outside off and had the LSG captain caught at sweeper cover—for 58 (44).
Pooran came in and blasted 4 fours and 4 sixes, but even his 64* (41) wasn’t going to be enough tonight.
Score summary: Rajasthan Royals 193/4 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 82, Naveen-ul-Haq 2/41); Lucknow Super Giants 173/6 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 64, Trent Boult 2/35). RR defeated LSG by 20 runs.
