Sidhu Says Virat Kohli is the Greatest Indian Batter: Navjot Singh Sidhu, who once rocked the stadiums with his aggressive hits, is coming back, once again as a commentator for Star Sports ahead of the IPL 2024. In his first interview after his return, Sidhu talked about a lot of cricketing things, and among them, surely came the topic of King Kohli.
Sidhu Says Virat Kohli is the Greatest Indian Batter
Sidhu thinks Virat is the greatest Indian batter who ever lived. He picks the RCB star over the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar. The main reason Sidhu gives is Kohli’s mastery in all three formats of cricket.
“I have rated him as the greatest Indian batter ever. There was a time when I used to listen about Sunil Gavaskar’s batting against the West Indies. He dominated international cricket for 15-20 years. We then saw Sachin Tendulkar leading the batting charts in Test cricket and one-day internationals. MS Dhoni also had his time and won several matches for India. Virat Kohli came into the picture and scripted new records across formats. I believe Virat is the greatest among the four batters as he adapted to all three formats,”
Another factor that separates Kohli from the rest is his fitness and technicality, says Sidhu.
“Virat Kohli is the fittest and is technically very sound. Sachin faced fitness issues. Dhoni was fit but Kohli is super fit. It takes him above the other three names. He has been serving Indian cricket for a long time across formats. The adaptability factor also works in Virat’s favor,” he added.
Sidhu is also against the concept of Kohli batting at No. 3. He thinks that Kohli has batted well in the past as an opener and should continue to do so.
“He should think about his team. He is the greatest batter, but his team hasn’t won the Indian Premier League trophy. It is a blot that he wants to erase as soon as possible. He has batted well as an opener in the past.”
