Gill Becomes Second Highest Run Scorer in the Series
Teaming up with India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, Gill formed a formidable partnership, both scoring centuries. With this knock, Gill not only crossed the 400-run mark in the ongoing Test series but also surpassed Zak Crawley to become the second-highest run-scorer in the five-match series.

Gill’s century came in the 58th over, marked by a boundary off spinner Shoaib Bashir. His innings included 10 boundaries and five sixes, displaying his attacking style of play.
India had a strong morning session on Day 2, scoring 129 runs and reaching a total of 264 for 1 by lunch, leading England by 46 runs. Gill’s contribution to this score was a commendable 101 runs off 142 balls.
On Day 1, India had bowled out England for 218 runs in their first innings, with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav claiming five wickets and Ravichandran Ashwin taking four wickets in his 100th Test match.
Rohit Sweeps Away Sunil Gavaskar’s Record
Rohit Sharma, in addition to Gill’s century, also achieved a milestone by equaling Sunil Gavaskar’s record of most Test centuries by an Indian opener against England. Rohit’s century marked his 12th in Test cricket, making him the second Indian opener to score four centuries against England after Gavaskar.
Rohit’s impressive batting performance extends beyond this series, as he has also become one of the two Indian opening batters to score over 1000 runs against England, joining Gavaskar in this feat.
