Pat Cummins To Captain Sunrisers Hyderabad: Sunrisers Hyderabad announced that Australian pacer Pat Cummins would lead the side as their captain in the 2024 season of the IPL.
Bought by SRH in the IPL 2024 auction, the Australian captain became the second-costliest player in the history of the league when the Hyderabad-based franchise paid a whopping Rs. 20.5 Crore for his services.
While he had a solid year on the field in 2023, Cummins was named ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year because of how successful he was as a captain. He first lead Australia to a win in the final of the World Test Championship against India. Je then tied and retained the Ashes against a dominant English team in England. Later in the year, he captained the Kangaroos to an unexpected ODI World Cup win, again defeating India in the final.

Sunrisers Hyderabad has been looking for a new direction in captaincy ever since Kane Williamson left the franchise before the 2023 season. Last year, they named South African all-rounder Aiden Markram as their captain. That selection was on the back of Markram winning the inaugural SA20 tournament as the captain of Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
While Markram won SA20 for the second year in a row as captain, he had a dismal 2023 IPL season as the skipper, finishing last in the league table with only four wins.
With SRH clearly not satisfied with Aiden Markram’s captaincy, they have now put all their chips on the 30-year-old Cummins, who has been the most successful captain in international cricket over the past few years.
Before signing with SRH, Pat Cummins played for the Kolkata Knight Riders for three seasons. While he did not have the best time with the ball for that span of time, he did show his prowess with the bat, and how he can be a solid lower-order all-rounder.
This is not the only change in the top brass of the Sunrisers, as Brian Lara was replaced by Daniel Vittori as the new head coach following the abysmal 2023 season. The team is also looking for a new bowling coach after Dale Steyn left the position vacant.
