Akash Deep Impresses On Debut: Debutant pace bowler Akash Deephas made his impact by taking three quality wickets against England.
It is Day 1 of India’s 4th Test match against England, being played in the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand and Akash Deep has started off his Test career in spectacular fashion after England won the toss and chose to bat.
Akash, who has replaced a rested Jasprit Bumrah in the side, plays and has impressed for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. He could not have had a better start to his red-ball cricket career for the national team.
Akash Deep Impresses On Debut
In his fifth over of the day, the right-arm fast bowler bowled a beautiful delivery that landed on good length. The ball landed in the line of the fourth stump but moved after the bounce and went towards the sixth stump. Ben Duckett, who scored 150 in the last match, threw his bat for an on-drive but edged the ball. Dhruv Jurel caught a regulation catch and Akash Deep took his first Test wickets.

In the same over, Deep came over the wicket for the right-handed Ollie Pope, who had just come onto the field. The fourth ball of the over saw Akash Depp move the ball in the air. The ball struck Pope on the pads but he was given not out. In the meantime, the ball was thrown towards the wicket by a fielder but missed as the red raced towards the boundary.
After much deliberation, captain Rohit Sharma took the review and the DRS showed that the ball would’ve hit the stumps. Wicket no.2 for Indi and Akash Deep.
His third wicket of the day was arguably his best. Bowling to Zak Crawley, who had taken the responsibility of being the aggressor throughout the innings, was playing on 42 off 41 balls as the team score was 57/2. Deep, bowling the fifth ball of his sixth over, bowled on the good length as the ball cut sharply in towards the wicket. Crawley was stumped (figuratively) as the ball cut in and kissed the top of the stump. The empire did check for no-ball, but Crawley had to keep walking.
Akash Deep has shown some class on his Test cricket debut. Since his three wickets, Ravindra Jadeja has taken two wickets as England are now reeling at 170/5.
