It is Day 1 of the 3rd Test of the ongoing five-match series against England. The match is being played in Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, which is considered a batter’s haven. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first and lost three wickets in quick succession. Inda was 33/3 after losing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 10, Shubman Gll for a duck, and Rajat Patidar for 5.
When Ravindra Jadeja walked in to bat at #5, he and Rohit Sharma shouldered the responsibility of stabilizing the Indian innings, which the two did successfully. India’s 4th wicket partnership was for a whopping 204 runs. This partnership saw skipper Sharma take charge and punch back at the English bowlers.

The Hitman completed his century and was elated, as it was his first 50+ score in the last five Tests. He notched up the score of 131 before being dismissed by an on-fire Mark Wood.
This was Rohit’s 3rd century against the Three Lions, his joint-most against any country and 11th in his Test career.
During the innings, Rohit struck 14 boundaries and 3 sixes. This resulted in him breaking a long-standing record set by MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni had the second-most sixes by an Indian in Test cricket with 78. Before the match, Sharma’s six-tally was at 77. So when he hit his first maximum of the day off of Joe Root, he equaled the record. He then went on to do two better in his innings.
Only Virender Sehwag now stands ahead of Rohit as the Indian with the most sixes in Test cricket. The Nawab of Najafgarh has 91 sixes in the format.
The most sixes in Test cricket by a player for any nation is English captain Ben Stokes, who is currently playing his 100th Test match and has hit 128 sixes in the longest format of the game.
