RCB Players To Watch Out For In IPL 2024: Even though Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have never won an IPL trophy in 16 seasons, their fanbase keeps on increasing, thanks to one man: Virat Kohli, the only player in the history of the IPL to have played all sixteen seasons for a single franchise.
Kohli and RCB have played in three IPL finals—2009, 2011, and 2016—but have faced losses in all three of them. RCB even made the playoffs for three straight seasons in 2020, 2021, and 2022, but failed to reach the final. Last year, the Faf du Plessis-led side failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Interestingly, their bowling attack looks even weaker this season compared to last year after the release of Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, and Wanindu Hasaranga and their failure to buy a marquee T20 bowler in the IPL 2024 auction.
3 RCB Players To Watch Out For In IPL 2024 season:
Virat Kohli
The eyeballs are always on Virat Kohli whenever he steps on the field, be it anywhere in the world. The 35-year-old will take the field in IPL 2024 to fulfill his and his millions of fans’ dream of lifting the IPL trophy.
After a dip in form in the IPL 2022, Kohli rocked back to his best last year. In IPL 2023, he scored 639 runs at an average of 53 and slammed two centuries and six fifties, but couldn’t take his side into the top four.
Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in IPL history with 7263 runs and will add on to this in IPL 2024.
Cameron Green
RCB made a massive and unanticipated gamble by roping in Cameron Green as a trade from the Mumbai Indians. This allowed MI to free up the space of INR 17.5 crore to accommodate Hardik Pandya, who returned to MI from the Gujarat Titans. But this created a problem for RCB as their purse suddenly decreased by a large amount.
Nonetheless, being a pace-bowling Australian all-rounder, Cameron Green is an asset and had a brilliant debut IPL season last year. In IPL 2023, Green scored 452 runs, proving to be a success at number 3, including a century. The issue with RCB is that their top four of Kohli, du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, and Glenn Maxwell seem locked. So where would Green fit in? Will he have the same impact at number 5 or 6 as he did at number 3 for MI last year? We will have to wait to find out.
Alzarri Joseph
After failing to buy Pat Cummins, RCB shelled out a whopping INR 11.5 crore on West Indies’ Alzarri Joseph. Although Joseph was part of the Gujarat Titans team that won the IPL 2022 trophy and finished runner-up last year, his returns with the ball weren’t great, and that’s why he was released by GT. In 16 games in the last two IPL seasons, Joseph took 14 wickets and conceded at an economy of 9.06.
Now, he will be the leader of RCB’s pace attack along with Reece Topley, who, though, is injury-prone. RCB fans are hoping that Joseph delivers for them this year, especially at the Chinnaswamy.
