BBL13-Strikers vs Scorchers Knockout Report: Not many would have bet on the Adelaide Strikers to defeat the Perth Scorchers at the Perth Stadium (also known as Optus Stadium) in the BBL 2023-24 Knockout game. But Matt Short’s team not only beat Aaron Hardie’s side; they stunned them and the home crowd with a 50-run victory through a sensational bowling performance.
The Scorchers had not lost a single game at the Optus this season and had conceded only one loss in their last 18 games at home. However, their might was trounced by 24-year-old leg-spinner Lloyd Pope, who took his second consecutive four-wicket haul.
The Perth Scorchers have been knocked out of the tournament, while the Adelaide Strikers will next face the Brisbane Heat in the Challenger in Queensland, with a place in the final at stake.
Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers As it happened:
As expected, it was a challenging Perth surface for the batters. But this time, it uncharacteristically provided help for spinners. Cooper Connolly took two wickets in the first innings, and it got even tougher later on as the spin pair of Cameron Boyce and Lloyd Pope shared 7 wickets between them. Perth were bowled out for only 105 in the chase of 156.

Perth opted to bowl first, and it mostly went their way for the first half of Adelaide’s innings. Adelaide lost four wickets for 48 runs inside the first 10 overs. The experienced Jake Weatherald waged a counter-attack, scoring 56 runs in 32 balls, with support from Ben Manenti and Henry Thornton, the duo managing 51 runs between them.
A total of 155 kept both teams in the game. Perth got off to a flyer with Sam Fanning cracking 31 runs in 20 balls, but after his wicket in the 5th over, the game started to tilt heavily for Adelaide, so much so that the hosts didn’t get a chance to make a comeback.
Boyce and Pope were all over the Scorchers’ batting line-up. Only two Scorchers batters scored more than 15 runs each, but neither of them could score more than 31.
A rare loss for Perth at their home ground came in the Knockout, which means their title defense is over.
