Afghanistan Lifts Ban From 3 National Team Player: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has lifted the two-year ban imposed upon their players Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Naveen Ul Haq that stopped them from playing franchise cricket around the world. The bans were lifted after the players agreed to sign central contracts with the board.

As per the Afghanistan Lifts Ban From 3 National Team Player, In December 2023, the three players informed the board that they wanted to be released from their central contracts. In response to this request, the ACB sanctioned these players and decided to delay the renewal of their 2024 annual retainers. The board also decided to not grant them the NOC (No Objection Certificates) for two years. NOCs are required to play franchise cricket.

These sanctions disallowed Mujeeb Ur Rahman to be part of the playing XI for his Big Bash League team Melbourne Renegades. While he was part of the squad, he could not be part of the playing XI due to the absence of those NOCs.
These sanctions also had the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) in sweat, as all three players are set to play in IPL 2024. In order to Afghanistan Lifts Ban From 3 National Team Player, While Naveen Ul Haq was retained by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mujeeb Ur Rahman was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Fazalhaq Farooqi was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the December auction.

ACB has now decided to lift the sanctions against these players as they have now decided to sign central contracts with the board. The board will also impose a set of measures on these players, including a written warning, salary deductions, and issuance of the NOCs on the basis of prioritization of national duty over franchise cricket.
“The Afghanistan Cricket Board has modified the previously imposed sanctions on three national players—Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, and Naveen Ul Haq—following a thorough investigation. The modified sanctions will now allow these players to receive central contracts and participate in franchise leagues while ensuring their full commitment to national duties and ACB’s interests,”
said ACB in a press release.

In the same statement, ACB claimed that these players have played a massive role in Afghanistan’s success in international cricket, but reminded them that national duty must come first going forward –
“The players have undoubtedly contributed to the team’s success and have represented the nation to the best of their values. We hope that they avoid making similar inconveniences in the future as we expect them to represent the country in the best of manners. The ACB and the rules are above all of us and it’s important to adhere to the regulations because there are no exceptions for anyone in this regard. However, such cases of a similar nature would be dealt with more strictly as we prioritize the prestige of Afghanistan Cricket and the organization.”
