Thibaut Courtois Likely To Miss The Euro 2024: Real Madrid star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has reportedly decided that he will skip the UEFA Euros 2024 as the Belgian shot-stopper will be prioritizing his recovery from a massive ACL injury and will be looking to come back at 100% strength.

According to Radio Marca, Courtois has informed his club Real Madrid that he will not be travelling to Germany for the Euros starting in May 2024. He will instead stay at the club’s facilities and work on a complete recovery with Real’s goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis.
Right before the start of the season in August, the 31-year-old keeper left a club training session in tears following a severe injury. It was later confirmed by Real Madrid that Courtois had suffered anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) damage and could be out for the whole season. The typical recovery time for such an injury is 6-12 months.
While Kepa, who was hurriedly signed as the Belgian’s replacement has been doing a decent job goalkeeping for Los Blancos, Courtois, as arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, is sorely missed by both – his club and country.
While Thibaut Courtois himself hasn’t spoken up about the issue, his entourage, however, has denied this story, claiming his return to the side will depend upon whether he is ready to step onto the pitch,
For what it’s worth, the star-keeper had a public fallout with Belgian national team manager Domenico Tedesco. In June, Courtois was snubbed for Romelu Lukaku for the captain’s armband during a Euros 2024 qualifier against Austria. This situation stemmed from Kevin de Bruyne being out with an injury too.
At that point, Thibaut decided not to be part of the squad for that match. Later, the Real Madrid star believed that his national team manager had made the situation public and hit back at him on social media.
Now that Thibaut Courtois has been out for a while, VfL Wolfsburg’s Koen Casteels has emerged as Belgium’s no.1 goalkeeper. He will also likely be the national team’s primary goalkeeper heading into Euros 2024. Courtois, on the other hand, will be targeting a return as soon as the start of the 2024-25 season.
