Following the match, the worst-case scenario for him and the team turned out to be true. Nick Pope will have to undergo surgery for his dislocated shoulder and will be out for at least four months.

In the aftermath of the match, reports emerged that Newcastle were looking to sign a new no.1 keeper to replace Nick Pope in the squad in the upcoming transfer window. But now, it seems, that is not the case. Manager Eddie Howe has backed back-up goalkeeper Martin Dunravka to guard between the sticks for the next few months, with Lorius Karius now being the team’s second goalkeeper.

Yes, we brought in Nick – we wanted to build competition for places, we wanted to build a squad that we felt could really carry us to great success – but Martin is a high-class goalkeeper… He’s a brilliant shot-stopper himself, he’s very good with his feet and his distribution, so no hesitation about bringing Martin into the team and I hope he does really well,”.
said Howe.
Nick Pope has long been in and around the English National team, with many backing him to be the team’s first-choice keeper for the upcoming UEFA Euros 2024. As per the Newcastle United Not Looking For A New Goalkeeper, While the timeline for his recovery finishes a month before the tournament starts in May, coming back to the team and climbing his way back to be the first-choice keeper for the tournament will be a tall ask for the 31-year-old.
