Alex Volkanawski recently suffered a brutal head-kick knockout loss to the UFC 155-pound champion and the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Islam Makhachev. The loss doesn’t affect his status as the 145-pound champion, as his fight with Makhachev was in the 155-pound division. But again, fighters are prescribed to take enough time out after they suffer a knockout loss. Alex says it doesn’t matter to him, as he performs best when he is active.
Ilia Topuria is coming after a dominant performance against Josh Emmet, winning the fight by unanimous decision. Volkanovwski’s last fight in the featherweight division was with talented Brazilian fighter Yair Rodriguez. He won the fight by TKO in the third round.
Ilia Topuria is said to be one of the toughest challenges for Alex Volkanovski. Whether Ilia becomes champion at UFC 298 has to be waited for and seen. It will again depend on a lot of factors, like Volkanowski’s recovery from the knockout and how Ilia is going to solve the unsolved featherweight puzzle.
