Marlon Samuels banned from cricket: Former West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels has been handed a 6-year ban by the ICC from all forms of cricket after being found guilty of corrupt behavior for the T10 competition in Abu Dhabi in 2019. He was part of the Karnataka Tuskers squad in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament four years ago.
A two-time T20 World Cup winner with the West Indies, Marlon Samuels last played international cricket in 2018. Since then, he’s not been picked in any prominent T20 franchise league and only got to participate in the Abu Dhabi T10 league in 2019, in which he didn’t play any matches.
Marlon Samuels banned from cricket:
Samuels is learned to have accepted favors, bringing himself and cricket as a sport into disrepute, and to have hidden information from the investigating authorities.
The ICC Anti-Corruption Official under the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code had charged Samuels on four counts in September 2021, of which he was found guilty in August this year. His six-year ban was announced on Thursday and will commence on November 11.
The four charges against Marlon Samuels of which he’s been found guilty are:
Article 2.4.2- Failing to disclose the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that was made
Article 2.4.3- Failing to disclose the receipt of hospitality with a value of US $750 or more
Article 2.4.6 – Failing to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation
Article 2.4.7 – Obstructing or delaying the Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation by hiding information that may have been relevant to the investigation

ICC bans Marlon Samuels
In 2008, Samuels received a two-year ban for a similar offense.
Marlon Samuels featured in over 300 international matches and starred in both of West Indies T20 title wins: he was the Man of the Match for top-scoring in both the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup finals. In a low-scoring 2012 final in Colombo against hosts Sri Lanka, Samuels scored 78 runs in 56 balls and took 1/15 in West Indies’ 36-run win. Four years later, against England in Kolkata, he scored 85* in 66 balls before Carlos Brathwaite stole the show with 4 sixes in 4 balls to Ben Stokes.
He retired from cricket in November 2020. But this ban “will act as a strong deterrent to any participant who intends to break the rules”, said Alex Marshall, the head of the ICC’s HR and Integrity Unit.
