Ballon dOr All Winners 2023 List: The 2023 Ballon d’Or award ceremony was a historic night as Lionel Messi pipped Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to win his eighth Ballon d’Or. The Spanish national team and Barcelona Femeni player Aitana Bonmati won the female counterpart of the award.
In a season where both- the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup were played, it was the best player on both – the Argentina men’s and Spanish women’s teams, that won the titular prize awarded by French Football.
But the night had more than two awards being given out. And today, we will mention all the awards and their winners announced at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in France on October 30.
Ballon dOr All Winners 2023 List
The first award we will talk about is the Kopa Trophy, This is given to the best player under the age of 21 in the world. First awarded in 2018, this award is a global counterpart to the Golden Boy, which is reserved for only players in Europe. While the competition was tough for this trophy, there could only have been one winner. Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham had been a sensation in histamine at Borussia Dortmund until last year, but his move to Los Blancos has established him as the next superstar of global football. The podium was rounded up by Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich, and Pedri of Barcelona (he won it in 2021).
Next up is the Socrates Award. Named after the legendary Brazilian footballer of the same name, this award recognises humanitarian work done by champion players on and off the field. First awarded in 2022, this year it was given to Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian winger has started a foundation to build schools in impoverished areas in his native country. Vini was also very outspoken about racial abuse faced by him and other coloured athletes in La Liga and was the face of football’s fight against racism in the last year.

The Yashin Award, named after legendary Russian goalkeeper Lev Yashin, is awarded to the best goalkeeper of a particular season. One of the most competitive trophies to win, it was awarded to Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez this season. While he was an excellent keeper for his club side, it was his exploits in the 2022 FIFA World Cup that made him the favourite to win the Yashin Award. Martinez faced very strong competition for the award. Treble-winner with Manchester City, Ederson was second in the rankings, while Al-Hilal and Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou came third.
Next comes the Gerd Muller trophy. Named after the legendary German striker, this trophy is awarded to the highest goal scorer in the previous season. And to the surprise of absolutely no one, Manchester City and Norway star striker Erling Haaland picked up the award for his 56 goals for club and country. This was one of the most unsurprising award wins of the night, as it is purely statistics-based.

The Club of the Year Trophy is awarded to the best men’s and women’s clubs of the previous season. The men’s trophy was unsurprisingly won by Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side won the Champions League for the first time in their history on their way to completing the treble. The team started the 2022-23 season slow but became unstoppable by the end of it. The women’s award was won by Barcelona Femeni, who won the Spanish top division for women, Liga F, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The Women’s Ballon d’Or, also called Ballon d’Or Femini, was won by Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati. She won Liga F and the Women’s Champions League with Barca and the FIFA Women’s World Cup with Spain. Bonmati became only the fourth woman to win a Ballon d’Or, pipping Chelsea and Australia’s Sam Kerr, and her fellow Barca and Spanish teammate Salma Paralluelo.

In the most anticipated award for the night, the top 30 list for the Men’s Ballon d’Or was released. As many as seven Manchester City players were part of the list, but none of them won the award. After finally winning the World Cup with Argentina last year, Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi took home his eighth Ballon d’Or, going three past his generational rival Cristian Ronaldo. Although there was some controversy behind his win. Some people believe that Erling Haaland, treble and Gerd Muller Trophy winner, should have won his first Ballon d’Or instead, but Messi’s win was received positively by most fans. The Argentine great’s eighth Ballon d’Or seems to be the official conclusion of the Messi-Ronaldo era of world football, when the two greats sat atop the throne of the beautiful game for over a decade.
