Manchester City vs Young Boys UCL Results: Defending Champions Manchester City thrashed Swiss side Young Boys 3-1 to go to the top of Group G in the Champions League. This win on match day 3 almost ensures Manchester City’s qualification to the round of 16.
The match, taking place in Bern’s Wankdorf Stadium, was the first-ever fixture between these two sides.

The Manchester-based side started the match on top, with the likes of Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish creating convincing chances in the first 10 minutes. In fact the first half completely belonged to City when it comes to attacking.
In the 25th minute, Erling Haaland beat opposition goalkeeper Anthony Racioppi only to shoot the ball a bit wide of the goal. The very next minute, Doku had a solid chance of scoring off of a sublime pass by Grealish, but the Belgian seemed to have slipped while taking the shot, which the keeper easily collected.
Jack Grealish was having a fantastic night on the left wing, as he was flinging balls into the box at will. In the 30th minute, he swung another ball at Haaland’s feet, only for the Norwegian striker to not connect properly.
Manchester City came very close to scoring on multiple occasions in the first half but to no avail. So they started the second half strongly by scoring their first in the 49th minute. A lovely cross from Rodri finds Ruben Dias in the box, whose header is repelled by the crossbar. Manuel Akanji was in the right position to just nudge the rebounded ball into the goal, 1-0.

But Young Boys did not just fall back after conceding the goal as they equalized against the run of play in the 53rd minute. During a fast-paced counterattack, Meschak Elia lobs the ball over an onrushing Ederson, the Manchester City goalkeeper is left stranded as he watches the ball going into his own net, 1-1.
The goals were raining in the second half, as not too late, Rodri was clipped from behind by Mohamed Ali Camara in the box, with the referee pointing to the spot. Erling Haaland converted the penalty by slotting it towards the right side of the goal, 2-1.
In the 75th minute, a brilliant 1-2 by strike partners Halland and Julian Alvarez results in the Argentine scoring what seems to be the third goal for his side. But the referee concluded following a VAR check that Grealish had handled the ball in the goal’s buildup, so the goal was disallowed.
But Man City needn’t have worried, as in the 87th minute, they did score another goal. Rodri makes a clean pass through the middle of the pitch to Halland, who curled the ball into the top-right corner, 3-1.
An impressive 3-1 victory for Manchester City means that they are on 9 points in 3 matches in their Champions League Group. They are followed by RB Leipzig with 6 points in second, Young Boys with 1 point in third, and Red Star Belgrade in fourth with 1 point too.
