Aitana Bonmati could not sleep for days: A Ballon d’Or was already coming for Aitana Bonmati for a long time. The Spaniard nearly missed it a couple of times. This time, when she was shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or, she was having sleepless nights as she was too excited. Speaking on the stage on the Ballon d’Or night, Bonmati opened up about her feelings.
Aitana Bonmati Could Not Sleep for Days
“I’m a little nervous, I haven’t slept for a few days. This is a dream for me. I’m a discreet person, but being here is unique. Very proud because it has been an exceptional year at a sporting level and, although now I am here to collect an individual award, football is a collective sport.

Extending the award to her teammates, staff, and workers from Barcelona as well as the national team, Bonmati continued
“So I would like to extend the award to my teammates, staff and workers from Barça and the national team. Without them, I would not be here today.
She also didn’t forget to thank Barcelona President Joan Laporta.
“Thanks to the teams I have played for: Ribes, Cubelles and, above all, Barça, my club, headed here today by its president, Joan Laporta. Thank you for betting on us when no one believed, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a professional footballer. Who was going to tell me when I was a girl that I would end up playing in a full Camp Nou? We are a leading club in the world.”
Many in the women’s football community have long believed that Alexia Putella Bonmati deserved the Ballon d’Or, given her stellar performances. She was named the player of the match in the 2021 Champions League final and has already received accolades like the World Cup Golden Ball and UEFA Women’s Player of the Year. The 25-year-old is also a strong contender for the Best FIFA Women’s Player award.
