Trott talks ahead of the Bangladesh match: Afghanistan coach Jonathon Trott warns the team that the match against Bangladesh will be intense as they will try by hooks and crooks to win and thereby stay alive in the roaster.

Bangladesh Coming After a Loss
Bangladesh terribly lost their first match in the Asia Cup 2023 after a devastating batting display. And to breathe again, they will have to win the next match by any means. And Trot knows this very well.

The match, which is the fourth of the ongoing Asia Cup, will take place on September 3 in Lahore. Bangladesh will land today in Pakistan, later than their rivals. As Trott talks ahead of the Bangladesh match, he says that all the Asian countries are accustomed to the heat, and there might not be a clear-cut advantage for one side.
“We had hot weather in Sri Lanka as well, Hambantota, Colombo. I’m not sure what the weather was like in Kandy yesterday. I didn’t see the temperature but, look, all the nations from this area, all the nations in the Asia Cup, they grow up in hot weather, so they’ll be used to it. I don’t think it’ll be a sort of pro for us or we’re gonna benefit from it,”
Trott told reporters after their practice session on Friday
Trot chops off thoughts regarding the better familiarity of the conditions from his player’s minds, and he doesn’t want to take this action any lighter.
“If we think we’re gonna benefit from having been here a few days earlier than Bangladesh, then I think we’re in trouble. We’ve gotta make sure whatever weather we deal with, whatever the weather is, we gotta make sure we’re better than them. So, that’s the mentality and that’s the way going forward”.

Taking the Defeat Positively
Trott talks ahead of the Bangladesh match: Trott didn’t want to shy away from the questions regarding their recent loss to Pakistan. Instead, he rather takes it positively. He said that the team could learn a lot about where they lack, and this would help them improve ahead of the Asia Cup and the World Cup. He thinks that they did well in the initial two games, and in the second game, they would have almost won the match.
“I think the series showed us the level we need to get to. We need to be consistent in our cricket. We had stages where we played some good cricket and we were in the first game, bowling them out for 200. And in the second game, we were in the game when we got 300 batting first, and I feel we should have won that game as well.”
As Trott talks ahead of the Bangladesh match, he also believes that the team has a lot of potential. By modifying the approach and the mentality, which would come with experience, he thinks Afghanistan would be a much better team.
“I think there’s a lot of potential and so much talent in the Afghan middle order.” But it’s also about applying it, knowing the tempo that you need to bat at, and assessing the conditions and what’s needed at the time. So, I don’t think it’s the talent; I think it could be a little bit of the basics and, previously, the mentality of playing. I think the higher up you go, the more your mentality has got to be stronger, and you’ve got to be able to handle the pressure.
