Vitinha is a Portuguese midfielder who plays for Paris Saint‑Germain and Portugal’s national team. He was born on February 13, 2000, and most people just call him Vitinha.

He came up through Porto’s youth system. He got promoted to the first team in 2020, but then went on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers in England for a season. When he came back to Porto, he became a key player and helped the club win both the Portuguese league and cup in the same season. He was also named the league’s best young player.

In June 2022, he signed with PSG. He has won four Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups since joining the French club. But the biggest achievements came in 2025 and 2026. PSG won back-to-back Champions League titles for the first time in club history. That same year, Vitinha finished third in the voting for the Ballon d’Or, which goes to the world’s best player. He was also named to the FIFPRO World XI, an all-star team voted on by professional footballers around the globe.

Before playing for Portugal’s senior team, he came up through the youth ranks. He played for the under-19 and under-21 sides, and both teams finished as runners-up in their respective European championships. He made his senior debut for Portugal in 2022. Since then, he’s played in the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024. In 2025, he helped Portugal win the UEFA Nations League.

5 Fun Facts You Didn’t Know About Vitinha

Benfica Fan Who Became a Porto Icon

One of Portuguese football’s most delightful ironies: Vitinha grew up idolising Benfica. Yet, at just 11 years old, he was scooped up by Porto’s scouts and moulded into a star. He went on to win the Primeira Liga and domestic double with Porto before his big move to PSG. A childhood heart traded for a trophy cabinet.

A Wolves Loan That Went Nowhere

It’s hard to imagine the world-class midfielder struggling, but his first move outside Portugal was a major flop. After winning the UEFA Youth League with Porto, he went on loan to Wolves in 2020. Two established Portuguese stars – Rúben Neves and João Moutinho – blocked his path. He made only 22 appearances and was sent back. A temporary setback.

Broke Xavi’s Champions League Record

When Vitinha finally got his chance after returning to Porto, he didn’t just impress – he dominated. In the 2025/26 Champions League season, he shattered Xavi’s 13‑year‑old record for most passes in a single UCL season. He finished with a mind‑boggling 1,448 completed passes. A human metronome who rewrote history.

Football Runs in the Blood

Vitinha wasn’t the first elite athlete in his family. His father, Vítor Manuel Ferreira, made almost 200 appearances in the Portuguese top flight. His grandfather, Antonio “Paulista”, and his uncle Vasco also played. His cousin Daniela “Pisko” Ferreira is a futsal international for Portugal. A family where the ball never stops rolling.

The Nickname ‘Little Vítor’

In Portuguese, the suffix “-inha” means “little”. At 1.72 metres (about 5’8″), Vitinha was one of the smaller kids on the pitch, so everyone started calling him Vitinha – literally “Little Vítor.” What started as a childhood observation became his global identity. A small player with an enormous impact on the game.
