Kai Lukas Havertz was born on 11 June 1999. He is a German professional footballer. He plays as a forward or attacking midfielder for Arsenal and the Germany national team.

He came through Bayer Leverkusen’s youth academy and made his senior debut in 2016. He became the club’s youngest-ever debutant in the Bundesliga. He also became their youngest-ever scorer when he got his first goal the following year. He holds the record for being the youngest player to reach 50 and 100 league appearances in the German top flight.

Chelsea signed him in 2020 for €73.4 million (£62 million). It made him Chelsea’s second-most expensive signing at the time. With Chelsea, he won the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League, the 2021 UEFA Super Cup and the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup. He scored the winning goals in both the Champions League and Club World Cup finals.

In June 2023, he joined Arsenal for a reported fee of £65 million. With Arsenal, he won the Premier League and reached the final of the Champions League in 2026. He scored in that final.

He made his senior debut for Germany in September 2018. He was the first player born in 1999 to represent the national team. He has played in two European Championships (2020 and 2024) and two World Cups (2022 and 2026). He has scored four goals at the Euros and five goals at the World Cups.

Balancing football with education, Havertz once missed a crucial Champions League match for Bayer Leverkusen because he had to stay home and take his school exams. He successfully balanced his studies in Sports, German, Geography, and Maths. A student first, footballer second on that day.

A Talented Pianist Who Plays to Relax

Havertz is a skilled piano player. He uses the instrument to relax after high-pressure matches. He started learning as a hobby away from football. He dreams of one day mastering both classical and modern music. A footballer with a musical soul. He finds peace in melody.

His Grandfather Was the Chairman of His First Club

Havertz joined his first club, Alemannia Mariadorf, at just four years old. His grandfather, Richard, was the long-time chairman of the club, and Havertz credits him with getting him into the sport. A family connection that started it all.
