The Lucknow Super Giants registered a rare victory in IPL 2026 with a win over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. But what were the hits and flops in this LSG vs RCB game?

Today’s LSG vs RCB game was Match 50 of IPL 2026. It was played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, with the away team winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. This game was stopped twice due to rain, and one over was reduced in both innings.

Off the back of a brilliant ton by Mitchell Marsh and fine finishing by Rishabh Pant, LSG managed to reach 209/3 in 19 overs.

In response, RCB lost early wickets before the danger duo of Tim David and captain Rajat Patidar made things interesting. In the end, however, a target of 213 (DLS) in 19 overs was just too much for the defending champions, who lost the game by nine runs.

Today, we will discuss three hits and flops from the LSG vs RCB game in IPL 2026 Match 50.

Three Hits And Flops From LSG Vs RCB Match

Hits

1. Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh, before the 2025 season, had never been a standout IPL performer. However, last season, for the Lucknow Super Giants, he had his best IPL season to date. This season, while he has been decent in an otherwise underwhelming LSG side, he has not had a stellar innings. That changed today.

In a rain-affected game, Marsh hit the pedal to the metal from the get-go. He hit two sixes in the second over of the game to fellow Aussie Josh Hazlewood, then hit a few more in the overs to come. He completed his half-century in 20 balls.

At the end of the powerplay, LSG’s score was 68/0, and Marsh had made 58 of those runs. He raced up to 70 runs in 29 balls, and while the Super Giants slowed down due to multiple rain interruptions, the tall Australian put his team on his back and went on to score a century in 49 deliveries.

In a shortened game of 19 overs per side, Mitchell Marsh made 111 off 56. He played a vital role in pushing his team past the 200-run mark, a total of 209 runs in 19 overs, which would prove to be a winning one.

For his excellent innings, Mitchell Marsh was named the Player of the Match.

2. The Pant-Pooran Finish

A major reason for LSG’s dismal performance in IPL 2026 has been the failure of two of their most important middle-order batters, those being Nicholas Pooran and team captain Rishabh Pant. However, the two played match-saving innings tonight.

By the time Pooran came to the pitch in the 10th over after the wicket of a struggling Arshin Kulkarni, the team was nearing the 100-run mark, and Mitchell Marsh was batting at 76.

The West Indies batter hit a couple of boundaries right off the bat, keeping up with an attacking Marsh. By the end of the 16th over, he was batting at 29 off 17. And when Marsh got out on the first ball of the 17th, he was joined on the crease by Rishabh Pant.

Pant, who is undergoing his worst IPL season with the bat, came in with an attacking mood. In his first five balls, he hit Hazlewood for two boundaries and a maximum.

Pooran would end up getting dismissed in the 19th over, which was also the last over of the innings, for 38 off 23. At this point, the team had four balls left, and the score was 194/2.

And just when RCB would have thought that they would get away with a sub-200 run target, Pant hit Rasikh Salam for two fours and a six on the last three balls of the final over.

Rishabh Pant ended his innings at 32 runs off 10 balls. He and Pooran played for 33 balls combined and made 70 runs.

3. Prince Yadav Steals The Show

Prince Yadav was solid for the Lucknow Super Giants in 2025. However, this season, he has been an absolute revelation. With the way he has been performing this season, an India cap is not too far.

While Lucknow had a decent target to defend, they had to do so against arguably the best batting attack in the league. Mohammed Shami, who also had a solid outing today, made things easier for the home side with the wicket of Jacob Bethell in the first over. But it wasn’t until Prince hunted the king that things became interesting.

Prince Yadav bowled the second over in this chase. On the second ball of the over, the Delhi pacer bowled a good-length ball just outside the line of the stumps. The ball nipped in after bouncing and ripped the off stump clean off the ground as Virat Kohli was comprehensively bowled for a duck.

Yadav also did a lot of damage later in the game. After bowling two overs in the powerplay, in which he conceded just 18 runs, Prince came in to bowl the third over of his spell in the 11th over. And on the very first ball of this over, he dismissed a dangerous-looking Devdutt Padikkal, who was caught and bowled for 34 off 25.

Finally, on the fifth ball of the very same over, Yadav got his third wicket as Jitesh Sharma was caught behind for one off three.

Prince Yadav finished his impressive spell on the night with the figures 3/33. If not for a literal ton being hit in the first inning, he would be in contention for a Player of the Match award. He currently stands third in the IPL 2026 Purple Cap race with 16 scalps in 10 games.

Flops

1. RCB Pace Bowling

The RCB pace-bowling had a poor showing tonight. One of the highest-rated pace attacks in the IPL, the trio of Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Rasikh Salam looked toothless in this game.

Well, at least the start was promising, as Bhuvi looked dangerous in his first over. But soon, the tide shifted. Hazlewood was hit for two sixes in his first over, and Kumar was hit for one in his second. Rasikh Salam’s only over in the powerplay went for 17 runs.

Suyash Sharma conceded with an economy of 10.5 tonight but only bowled two overs. While Romario Shepherd went for 16 rpo, he bowled just one. Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya was the team’s most economical bowler, conceding 31 in four overs. This leaves the three pacers, who were taken to the cleaners tonight.

Bhuvi might be the only exception here. He gave away “just” 34 runs in four overs at an economy of 8.50. But he also did not take any wickets in this game, so it was a poor night for the current Purple Cap holder.

Josh Hazlewood, who has been brilliant in moments this season, was not at his best tonight. While he did take the big wicket of Mitchell Marsh, he also conceded 49 runs in four overs at an economy of 12.25.

Finally, Rasikh Salam truly had a nightmare performance. He took the wicket of Nicholas Pooran in the last over but also conceded 53 in four at an economy of 13.25.

2. RCB Opening

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru were chasing a massive target tonight, needing 213 runs in 19 overs (due to DLS) to win. For that to happen, their openers, those being Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli, would have to do a lot of heavy lifting. Well, let’s just say that did not happen.

The first over of the second innings, bowled by Mohammed Shami, was, on many levels, weird. The veteran pacer looked good moving the ball around, bowled three wides, conceded a boundary, and then dismissed Bethell.

On the fifth ball of the over, the Englishman, looking to build up on the boundary from the last ball, looked to hit big. Instead, he was beaten by the movement, skied the ball and was caught at deep point for four runs off five balls.

Then, in the second over, Virat Kohli came on the strike for the first time in the game. The first ball by Prince Yadav was a dot, and the second saw the stumps light up as Kohli was out for a duck, leaving RCB in quite the pickle.

3. Two LSG Bowlers Conceded 100 Runs

While the Lucknow Super Giants might have won this game, there are several negatives that they will take away from this one. The biggest of these would be their own bowling performance.

Let’s start with the ones with some positives in their performance. As previously discussed, Prince Yadav was the MVP of this bowling attack tonight. Mohammed Shami too had a fine evening, finishing his four-over spell with solid figures of 1/33.

And Shahbaz Ahmed, who was costly, conceding 33 runs in three overs at an economy of 11, did take the two massive wickets of Tim David and RCB captain Rajat Patidar, which might have won LSG the game.

This leaves two bowlers – pace bowler Mayank Yadav and leg/mystery spinner Digvesh Rathi. It would be an understatement to say that these two will want to forget this game as soon as possible.

First up is Digvesh, who gave away 15 runs in his first over, falling victim to some fantastic hitting by Rajat Patidar. He then conceded 17 runs in his second over. Just nine runs came off his third over and nine more from his final over for a total of 50 in four with no wickets.

Digvesh’s overs swung the tide of this game to RCB’s side in the middle overs before Shahbaz Ahmed took the two big wickets.

Next up is Mayank, whose first over in the powerplay went for just six runs, while his second went for nine. The remainder of his overs, however, were a different tale. His third over, which came right after Rathi’s 17-run over, went for 18 runs.

Yadav then gave away 17 runs in his final over, which kept the match exciting for longer than it needed to be. His figures at the end of the night were 0/50.
