2026 World Cup Group K Predictions: We are just days away from the biggest sporting extravaganza in the world, as the FIFA World Cup 2026 will kick off on Thursday, June 11 (June 12 IST). The competition will be hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico and will be the biggest edition of the tournament yet, with 48 teams participating.
These 48 teams, several of them having qualified for the World Cup for the first time, have been divided into 12 groups of four teams each.
Each side will go up against the other in a group once. After each team has played their three games, the nations that finish in the top two in their group will qualify for the Round of 32. But that just gives us 24 teams, leaving eight more qualification spots. And so, the eight best-performing third-placed sides will also make it to the knockout rounds.

Today, we will predict how Group K of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will shape up at the end of the group stage. This might be one of the more lopsided groups in this tournament, with Portugal, Colombia, DR Congo, and Uzbekistan being in it.
Portugal had a comfortable path through the UEFA qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026. In the first round, they topped their group comfortably over Ireland, Hungary, and Armenia to qualify for the World Cup
Colombia are regular appearance makers in the World Cup. In the CONMEBOL qualifiers, they finished third, behind Argentina and Ecuador, and ahead of the likes of Uruguay and Brazil to confirm their place in yet another World Cup.
DR Congo has qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1974, 52 years ago. Their route through the CAF qualifiers was a long and arduous one. In the four team playoff of teams from multiple continents, they defeated Jamaica to qualify for the World Cup.
Lastly, Uzbekistan. Their rise through the FIFA rankings over the last decade has been phenomenal. In 2018, they ranked 95th in the world, alongside India in 97th. Today, they are ranked 50th. Now, they have qualified for the World Cup for the first time in their history. In the second round of AFC qualifiers, they finished second in their group to make it to the third round, where they finished second again, this time behind Iran, to book their tickets to North America.
Now, let’s see who will make it to the Round of 32 from Group K –
Group K has one team that looks stronger than the rest. But there are a couple of teams that are playing the World Cup for the first time in a very long time.
Portugal is one of the favourites to win this World Cup, with one of the strongest squads in the competition. Since qualifying for the World Cup in dominant fashion last year, this team has continued their solid form. They defeated Portugal, Chile, and Nigeria in friendlies in 2026. In 2025, they also won the UEFA Nations League, defeating Spain in the final.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the last dance for Portugal captain and one of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo. This team will also be managed by Roberto Martinez, who also managed Belgium’s golden generation for a long time. Some of the players that will look to make a mark on this tournament from this team include – midfield stalwart Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United, AC Milan winger Rafael Leão, PSG striker Gonçalo Ramos, and Manchester City defender Rúben Dias.
Colombia will look back at their 2014 World Cup performance, the year they reached the quarter-final, where they lost narrowly to hosts Brazil. Over the past year, this team has produced some positive results in friendlies. From a 4-0 win over Mexico to a 3-0 defeat of Australia. More importantly, they reached the final of the 2024 Copa America, where they lost to the mighty Argentina 1-0.
Colombia will be captained in the FIFA World Cup 2026 by the star of that famous 2014 campaign, James Rodríguez, and managed by Néstor Lorenzo. Some of the stars of this squad, who will be responsible for Colombia’s success in this tournament, are –
Winger Luis Díaz of Bayern Munich, Benfica midfielder Richard Ríos, and Crystal Palace defender Daniel Muñoz.
DR Congo has had a successful 2026 by its own standards. They reached the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025/26. Then, they won the inter-confederation playoff to qualify for the World Cup in April. Since then, this team drew a friendly against Denmark and lost one to Chile.
The Congolese will be captained by Lille and former Porto defender Chancel Mbemba, and managed by French manager Sébastien Desabre. Some players that will look to make a mark on the global stage include West Ham and former Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Burnley defender Axel Tuanzebe, and Newcastle United striker Yoane Wissa.
Finally, Uzbekistan. Most fans and experts do not have much hope for the first-time qualifiers. Their recent run of friendlies saw them play against much better teams. And while they did lose to Canada and the Netherlands, they also defeated Iran and Egypt late last year.
The Uzbeks will be captained in the FIFA World Cup 2026 by their star striker, Eldor Shomurodov, who has previously played for Roma and Genoa, and managed by legendary Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro. Some players to watch out for fro this squad include defender Abdukodir Khusanov of Manchester City, and midfielder Dostonbek Khamdamov.
