We are just days away from the biggest sporting extravaganza in the world, as the FIFA World Cup 2026 will kick off on Thursday, June 11 (June 12 IST). The competition will be hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico and will be the biggest edition of the tournament yet, with 48 teams participating.

These 48 teams, several of them having qualified for the World Cup for the first time, have been divided into 12 groups of four teams each.

Each side will go up against the other in a group once. After each team has played their three games, the nations that finish in the top two in their group will qualify for the Round of 32. But that just gives us 24 teams, leaving eight more qualification spots. And so, the eight best-performing third-placed sides will also make it to the knockout rounds.

World Cup Group F Predictions

Today, we will predict how Group F of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will shape up at the end of the group stage. This might be the tightest group in the competition, with the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia in it.

The Netherlands is probably the best footballing nation to have never won the World Cup. They were put in a tough UEFA qualification group with the likes of Poland and Finland. Topping that group comprehensively resulted in them qualifying for the World Cup.

Japan is the most successful Asian team in World football. Not only have they won the AFC Asian Cup the most times, but they have also made it to the round of 16 in the last two World Cups. They qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 fairly comfortably. After directly making it to the second round of AFC qualification, they dominated their group, topping it with six wins in as many games and booking their ticket to North America.

Sweden had a dismal first round of UEFA qualifiers, finishing at the bottom of their group behind Switzerland, Kosovo, and Slovenia. However, due to their performance in the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League, they qualified for the second round, or the play-offs. Here, groups of four teams went into a path, competing in semi-finals and then a final. The winner of a path qualified for the World Cup, which Sweden did, defeating Poland to qualify.

Lastly, Tunisia made it through the tough CAF qualification to make it to the FIFA World Cup 2026. To qualify, a team had to top their group, which Tunisia did, beating Namibia, Liberia, Malawi, Equatorial Guinea, and São Tomé and Príncipe to make it to the World Cup.

Now, let’s see who will make it to the Round of 32 from Group F –

This group looks quite top-heavy on paper. However, the fight for the qualification spots will be fierce, on paper.

Since qualifying for the World Cup late last year, the Netherlands has been in decent form. While not looking like the super Dutch teams of the past, they have beaten fellow World Cup qualifiers Norway and Uzbekistan in recent months, and have drawn against a strong Ecuador.

The Dutch will be captained by their defensive stalwart, Virgil van Dijk and managed by former Barca coach Ronald Koeman in this competition. They have several big-name players that will look for the spotlight in the World Cup, like Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo, Barcelona midfielder Frankie de Jong, and Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan.

Japan has been in brilliant form over the past year. In their last 12 games, they have only lost one. In that time-frame, they have beaten the likes of Brazil, South Korea, and England. The Asian giants are one of the best in-form teams in world football.

Japan will head into this competition under the guidance of their long-time manager, Hajime Moriyasu, and the captaincy of Liverpool star Wataru Endo. While star player Kaoru Mitoma will miss the World Cup due to a hamstring injury, they have enough squad strength to still be the strongest Asian team in the tournament. In Mitoma’s absence, “Japanese Messi” Kubo Takefusa, who is coming off a solid season with Real Sociedad, will likely be the star of the show.

Many believe that Sweden does not deserve to be in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Their qualification campaign suggested so. But they did qualify after sneaking into the second round. Since the qualification, this team has been beaten by Norway in a friendly and drawn 2-2 against a weak Greek team.

Sweden comes into this World Cup tournament as massive underdogs. But they do have a strong team with many in-form players. The European side will be captained by veteran defender Victor Lindelöf and managed by popular English manager Graham Potter. The likes of Alexander Isak of Liverpool and Viktor Gyökeres of Arsenal are the biggest names in this team.

Finally, the Ivory Coast. They will be captained by former Milan and Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessié, and will be managed by a former national team icon in Emerse Faé. While not a team full of massive names, they do have some ballers, like Hoffenheim striker Bazoumana Touré, Inter Milan attacker Ange-Yoan Bonny, and the biggest name of the lot, Manchester United star Amad Diallo.

Making it out of this group will be a challenge for Tunisia, one that they will face under the captaincy of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ellyes Skhiri and the management of former Cardiff and Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi. Players to watch out for from this team will be former Manchester United and current Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri and French-born youngster Ismaël Gharbi.

World Cup Group F Predictions –

  • Netherlands vs Japan: draw
  • Sweden vs Tunisia: draw
  • Netherlands vs Sweden: Netherlands wins
  • Tunisia vs Japan: Japan wins
  • Tunisia vs Netherlands: Netherlands wins
  • Japan vs Sweden: Japan wins
