Xavi Warns Barca to Pay His Support Staff: Xavi Hernandez is one of the best players Barcelona has ever had. The legendary tactician ruled the midfield along with Iniesta in a team that is considered the best one in recent history. But when he returned to Camp Nou, wearing the shirt of a manager, things didn’t quite go his way. The result was him getting sacked by the club before his contract expired.
Xavi Warns Barca to Pay His Support Staff
Xavi was sacked by Barcelona on May 25, a month after Barcelona persuaded him to stay when the former player decided to leave at the end of the season. Three days after this shocker, Xavi wants the club to pay all dues to his support staff at a personal cost. As reported by the Spanish media outlet AS, the 44-year-old is willing to forego his humongous €13m salary if the club pays up his staff (which will be around €3m).
Analysing Xavi’s Run At Barcelona
If you compare just statistically, Xavi’s record in Barcelona is second worst among the managers following the legendary Pep Guardiola period. But again, for his defense, he did better than his sudden predecessor, Ronaldo Koeman. Xavi has led Barcelona in 141 games and has an average point-per-game of 2.06. On the other hand, Koeman has just 1.96. Another thing Xavi could argue is that he spent a very insignificant amount (€53.3m) on the transfer market compared to his predecessors Ernest Valverde (€285.9m) and Luis Enrique (€188.5m) in the transfer window.
By the time Xavi took over the Barca mission, the club was already in a mess. But the player had managed to clinch the La Liga title in the very second season, thanks to the club rivals Real Madrid’s rebuilding processes.
