Six Indian players headlined the ICC World Cup 2023 Team of the Tournament, along with a couple of Australians. All in, 8 players in the best team of the World Cup 2023, revealed by the ICC, contested the final on Sunday, which went in Australia’s favor.
Defeating India in the final by six wickets, Australia put the 6th ODI World Cup trophy in their cabinet to continue their reign as the most supreme cricketing force in the 21st century, to back up their T20 World Cup 2021 title and the World Test Championship mace win earlier this year.
On Monday morning, the ICC announced the Team of the Tournament of the World Cup 2023. It carried 6 players from the runner-up Indian team, and only two from the eventual champions, Australia.

Quinton de Kock (wk), Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Daryl Mitchell, KL Rahul, Glenn Maxwell, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Dilshan Madushanka, Adam Zampa, Mohammed Shami. 12th player: Gerald Coetzee, as per the World Cup 2023 Team of the Tournament.
Virat Kohli bagged another ICC Man of the Tournament award for his record-breaking campaign of 765 runs that he raised with the help of 3 centuries and 6 fifties. However, he couldn’t get his hands on the trophy once again.
Rohit Sharma has the second-highest score with 597 runs, scored at a brilliant strike rate of 125. Quinton de Kock follows him with 594 runs at an average of 59 and a strike rate of 107. The left-handed Protea opener notched up 4 centuries, the most in this tournament.

Daryl Mitchell was the 5th highest-scorer with 552 runs at an average of 69 and two terrific centuries against India. KL Rahul got into the ICC Team of the Tournament for his versatile batting displays that brought him 452 runs at an average of 75.
The all-rounders spots went to Glenn Maxwell and Ravindra Jadeja, with Marco Jansen missing a place by not much. Maxwell clattered 400 runs at a thunderous strike rate of 150. The Aussie star produced an all-time great knock of 201* with one leg against Afghanistan. Jadeja finished the tournament with 16 wickets, commanding a superb economy of 4.25, and a couple of handy cameos with the bat.
The four bowlers in the World Cup 2023 Team of the Tournament picked themselves – the four top wicket-takers: Shami with 24 wickets, Zampa with 23 wickets, Madushanka with 21 wickets, and Bumrah with 20 wickets. Gerald Coetzee, who snapped 20 scalps, is the 12th player in the ICC Team of the Tournament.
