Will Virat Kohli Play In 2nd ODI Against England: Virat Kohli missed the first ODI against England due to a knee injury. Kohli’s absence in Nagpur, though, didn’t dent India as the hosts cruised to a four-wicket win.
Captain Rohit Sharma gave the news to the fans at the toss in Nagpur about Kohli’s knee injury. Rohit said Kohli got injured a night before the first ODI and complained of a knee issue. It was learned that Kohli suffered swelling on his right knee while training a day before the match.
On the day of the match, though Kohli walked out for training with other players, he wore a strap on his right knee and walked uncomfortably during the training before the match.
On the eve of the 2nd ODI, which will be played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday, India’s batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, has given a huge update regarding Virat Kohli.
Will Virat Kohli Play In 2nd ODI Against England?
Yes, Virat Kohli will play in the second ODI on Sunday against England in Cuttack. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has confirmed that Kohli has regained full fitness and will play in the second ODI.
In the press conference on Saturday, India’s batting coach said,
“Kohli is fit; yes, he is practicing with us today. He is good to go.”
Kohli is expected to take back his No. 3 spot. However, India will need to rejig their batting order in Cuttack as Kohli returns.
Kohli was replaced in the XI in Nagpur by Shreyas Iyer, who slammed a terrific half-century and then revealed that he was set to be benched as India handed Yashasvi Jaiswal an ODI debut.
Now, it is awaited to see who India will drop to accommodate Kohli back. Will India leave out Iyer, as they had pre-decided in Nagpur, despite his brilliant, counter-attacking fifty? Or will India drop Jaiswal after giving him just one match? Also, if India retain Jaiswal, where will Shubman Gill bat? Gill batted at No. 3 in Nagpur and struck a match-winning 87.
Meanwhile, Kohli would be looking to return to form and post a big score after a troubling time in the last four Tests against Australia and also getting out for only six runs on his Ranji Trophy return. Kohli is only 94 runs away from becoming only the third batsman in the history of ODI cricket to reach 14000 runs. Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara have done it before Kohli, but Kohli is set to become the fastest to reach this landmark.
