Will Sanju Samson Be Ruled Out of IPL 2025? Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson walked off the field against Delhi Capitals, suffering an injury somewhere around his ribs. He went off the field as he was retired hurt. The question now is, will he be out injured for the rest of IPL 2025?
Match 32 of the Indian Premier League 2025 saw DC take on RR at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. While batting first, the home team scored 188 runs. Then, for the Royals, Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Samson came out to bat.
In the first five overs, the two openers gave their team an excellent start, scoring 50 runs. At this point, Sanju was at 21 off 15. Then, on the first two balls of the sixth over, the skipper scored six more runs to take his score to 31. However, on the next ball, which was a no-ball, it seemed to have pulled something in around his ribs.

He played the free hit, on which he scored no runs, and was then taken off the field and announced as retired hurt, as compared to retired out. When a player is retired hurt, they can take the field later in the inning if their team requires it. Retired out, on the other hand, means that the batter can no longer take the crease again.
Ultimately, the match went to the Super Over, which the Capitals won. If Sanju was fit, he would surely have batted in the Super Over. Or more likely, the match wouldn’t have come down to it in the first place.
The question now is, will Sanju Samson be out for the rest of the season? Before IPL 2025, in the T20I series between India and England, the 30-year-old did suffer an injury, and because of it, only batted in the first three matches of the season for RR. However, that absence was a result of a broken finger and bore no similarity to today’s incident.
Because it is a brand-new injury, there is not much information about the condition of the RR captain yet. It is almost impossible to break a rib while doing the movement he was doing when he got injured, which was swinging his bat. So the possibility that remains is a muscle pull or tear.
If it were a tear, Sanju would likely have been taken to the hospital for scans right away. So most likely, it was a muscle pull, which means Sanju Samson will play in the next match for Rajasthan, and if not, then he will certainly play in the match following, in the scenario that it is only a muscle pull.
As for the Rajasthan Royals, tonight was their fifth loss in seven games. With only four points and a horrid net run rate, they are eighth on the points table.
