Will Mitchell Starc play in IPL 2025: One of Australia’s premier fast bowlers, Mitchell Starc, has finally opened up on the reasons he decided to opt out of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and also gave an update on his IPL 2025 participation.
Starc was initially named in Australia’s provisional 15-man squad for the tournament that is being played in Pakistan and Dubai. However, he pulled out of the competition, citing personal reasons. Starc was one of the five high-profile Australian players from their provisional squad who didn’t take part in the competition.
Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Marsh are out due to injuries, and Marcus Stoinis has retired from ODIs.
Why is Mitchell Starc not playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025?
Starc has revealed that he had ankle pain during the Test series in Sri Lanka. Also, he mentioned he had “some personal views” about not participating in the Champions Trophy, though he didn’t elaborate on it. Starc reckons he wants to be completely fit and fresh for the ICC WTC final in June against South Africa at Lord’s.
“There are a few different reasons, some personal views, and I had a bit of ankle pain through the Test series [against Sri Lanka]. So just get that one right; obviously, we’ve got the Test final coming up and a West Indies tour after that,” Starc told the Willow Talk podcast.
Will Mitchell Starc play in IPL 2025?
Yes, Starc has confirmed that he will play in the IPL 2025. The left-arm pacer was bought by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 mega auction for INR 11.75 crore.
“There’s some IPL cricket as well, but my main one on the top of my mind is that Test final, so I’ll get my body right, play some cricket in the next couple of months, and then be ready to go for the Test final,” he added.
Australia defeated England in their first game of the Champions Trophy, and their second game against South Africa was washed out. In their last group game, they will face Afghanistan, who recently defeated England. The winner of this match will seal their semi-final spot.
