Will KL Rahul open in Adelaide? While there remains a debate over the batting positions of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in the upcoming Adelaide Test against Australia, the Indian team management has made their final decision and conveyed it to the players.
Rahul attended the press conference on December 4, two days out from the Adelaide Test, where he was asked whether he knows his batting position for the 2nd BGT Test. The response from the right-hander left everyone in splits.
In the first BGT Test in Perth, Rahul opened the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal as Rohit Sharma was absent due to the birth of his child. Rohit joined the team in Perth and then participated in the warm-up match against PM’s XI and is ready to feature and lead the side in Adelaide, which will be hosting a day-night contest.
India’s memories of their previous pink-ball encounter in Adelaide are worrisome: they were bowled out for only 36 runs in their second innings and lost the Test match by a big margin despite taking a first-innings lead. Nonetheless, they won that series in an extraordinary fashion.
AUS vs IND: Will KL Rahul open in Adelaide? The Cricketer Gives a Witty Reply
Rahul had two excellent outings in Perth. He scored 26 (74) and 77 (176). He formed a 201-run opening stand with Jaiswal, which is the highest opening stand for India in Australia in Test cricket. The number of balls he faced and the amount of time he spent at the crease were as crucial as the runs he scored. He safely negotiated the new ball from the Aussie pacers, which allowed others to bat against a softer ball as the seamers ran in for their subsequent spells.
With Rohit Sharma returning to the XI, will KL Rahul open in Adelaide?
The cricketer was asked the question at Wednesday’s press conference whether he has been told his position for the next Test. Rahul said that he’s been told but cheekily said he has also been told not to reveal it yet.
Rahul said,
“I’ve been told, but I’ve also been told not to share it today. You have to wait for Day 1, or it may be when the captain (Rohit Sharma) comes here tomorrow.”
This prompted the journalists to let out some laughter.
Rahul added,
“I’ve been told, but I’ve also been told not to share it today. You have to wait for Day 1, or it may be when the captain (Rohit Sharma) comes here tomorrow.”
