Why Does The WWE Universe Hate Ronda Rousey?: Ronda Rousey has had one of the most peculiar WWE careers ever. One of the most popular female athletes of all time, the former Champion in the UFC, the mixed-martial artist came into the world of professional wrestling with a lot of hype and intrigue. She even won over the fans in her first run with the company.
But somewhere along the way, the character of Ronda Rousey fell out of favor with the WWE audiences. After an underwhelming match with long-time friend Shayna Bazsler at SummerSlam 2023, Rousey seems to have finished her time with the WWE. We can now look back and analyse, Why Does The WWE Universe Hate Ronda Rousey?
Why Does The WWE Universe Hate Ronda Rousey?
A Stale Character
While everyone might not agree with this point, Ronda Rousey’s on-screen character in the WWE grew stale only months into her run with the sports entertainment organization. While The Baddest Woman on the Planet’s WWE debut at WrestleMania 34 went gangbusters, her title reign, which started by defeating Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam 2018 and ran until WrestleMania 35, was the beginning of her character started not connecting with the fans.
The initial few months of her WWE run in 2018 saw the fans hooked in by the intrigue of how a former MMA fighter would transition into pro wrestling. But her non-evolving character, coupled with her running through any opponents she faced, made her less interesting in the fans’ eyes.
This was first observed at Survivor Series 2018, where Charlotte Flair was cheered for attacking Rousey with a kendo stock. After a years-long break, which saw Ronda give birth to a daughter, she returned and won the 2022 Royal Rumble. The fan excitement of seeing her back in WWE was soon dissipated after a disappointing loss against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 38. Her subsequent runs with the SmackDown Women’s Championship, rivalries with the likes of Liv Morgan and Shotzi, and even a heel turn were not enough for her to win over the fans again. Her place at the top of the card was seen as a dark spot on an otherwise exciting WWE product under Triple H.

Beef With The WWE Universe And Other Controversial Comments
After being booed and jeered by audiences back in 2018, Ronda Rousey started calling fans ungrateful. She has since regularly criticized the fans, her anger possibly stemmed from the fans resenting her on-screen character.
But the greatest sin she has committed in the eyes of the WWE universe is calling WWE and its product the dreaded ‘F-word’ (fake). In a YouTube Livestream before her RAW Women’s Championship defense against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, she criticized the scripted and ‘fake’ nature of WWE. In interviews and tweets during her sabbatical from the business, she doubled down on her comments and called the pro wrestling fake, undermining the physical and mental toll the business takes on its practitioners.
These comments not only made her unpopular with the fans she was working to entertain in WWE, but the words also did not sit right with some of her peers. Most notably, Becky Lynch took offense to Ronda Rousey’s comments, calling them disrespectful towards WWE wrestlers.
A Fall In Match Quality
A factor that made Ronda Rousey an intriguing part of the product during her first WWE run was how quickly she picked up the art of professional wrestling. She looked beyond her years in the squared circle in her first year as a sports entertainer. She had several memorable matches in that run, including her debut teaming up with Kurt Angle against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
The quality of matches seemed to have fallen in her second and final run with the company )as of now). While she has had a couple of good matches in this run, especially during her feud with Liv Morgan, she has also had some absolute stinkers in the past year. Rousey’s bout against Shotzi for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Survivor Series 2022 was one of the worst PLE bouts of the year (due to no particular fault of any of the involved wrestlers). Her final feud with the company, against Shayna Baszler, also failed to produce any exciting matches.
